Story:

In the beginning, five Dragon families lived in harmony in their Dragon Worlds. This peace was shattered when Gnasty Gnorc, an unpleasant creature resentful of the dragons and their shiny jewels, was banished to the Dragon junkyard, which he renamed Gnasty's World. Using magic, Gnasty cast a spell to trap all dragons in crystal and animated gems into Gnorc soldiers, transforming Dragon Worlds into Gnorc Worlds.

However, Gnasty overlooked Spyro the Dragon, who was too small for the freeze spell to affect. Now, Spyro, the only unfrozen dragon, must travel six worlds, including Gnasty's industrial world, to free the dragons and reclaim their stolen treasure. He is aided by Sparx the Dragonfly and the dragons he rescues, while Gnasty's minions attempt to stop him.

Part 3

Learn about Gems, Dragons, and Dragon Eggs in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! Discover their values, how to find them, and their importance for beating Gnasty.

Hey there! Ready to dive deeper into the world of Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!? This section is all about the goodies you'll be collecting as you play. We'll cover the three main types: Gems, Dragons, and Dragon Eggs. Knowing what these are and how to get them will make your journey much smoother, especially when it comes to beating Gnasty!

Gems

Gems are your bread and butter when it comes to collecting. You'll find them absolutely everywhere in the levels, and they're usually pretty visible. Each level has hundreds of them, with some having around 100 and others up to 500, and the later levels tend to pack in even more. Keep an eye out for different colors, as they're worth different amounts:

  • Red = 1 Gem
  • Green = 2 Gems
  • Purple/Blue = 5 Gems
  • Yellow/Gold = 10 Gems
  • Pink = 25 Gems

The rarer colors are worth more, naturally. If you're struggling to spot them, especially in darker areas, try using the first-person view (hold Triangle) and look for sparkles. Gems can be found just lying around, dropped by enemies, or hidden inside chests. In total, there are 14,000 gems to collect throughout the game, but you'll only need 6,000 to take on Gnasty.

Dragons

These guys are your main objective! Dragons are trapped in crystal prisons scattered across most levels. To free them, just hop onto their platform. They'll break free, chat with you for a bit (often giving helpful advice), and then disappear. Their platform will then light up, acting as a checkpoint. You can also step on it longer to save your game or re-listen to their speeches. You won't find dragons in flight levels, but you'll usually find one in boss levels and between two and five in others. There are 80 dragons to rescue in total, and you need 50 of them to beat Gnasty.

Dragon Eggs

These are the rarest collectibles, and honestly, more of an extra challenge. Weird blue thieves have nabbed the dragon eggs and are just waiting around for them to hatch. You'll know a thief is nearby because they'll be taunting you. When you get close, they'll start running. Your best bet is to charge after them, as they move just a little slower than Spyro and tend to stick to a predictable path. You don't necessarily need to charge them; a quick burst of flame when you're close is usually enough to get the egg back. You'll only find these in a few levels, often hidden away, and there are just 12 in total. You need 5 to beat Gnasty.

Chests

You'll also come across various types of chests scattered throughout the game. These can contain gems or other goodies, so always make sure to break them open!

Part 4

Discover the different types of chests and how to break them in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! Learn about level types, including Home, Regular, Flight, and Boss levels, and how to navigate between them.

Alright, welcome back! We're diving into Part 4 of our Spyro 2 adventure. This section is all about the nitty-gritty: the treasures you'll be hunting and the different kinds of places you'll be exploring. Let's get those gems and figure out where we're going!

Chests and Gems

Gems are your main currency and collectible, but they don't just appear out of thin air. Some drop from enemies, but many are hidden away in chests. Let's break down the different kinds:

  • Wooden Chests: These are your bread and butter – red and beige, a bit bigger than Spyro. Any attack will shatter them, revealing a random gem. Easy peasy.
  • Metal Chests: These shiny metal chests are about the same size as wooden ones. You can't break them with just your flame; you'll need a charge or another advanced attack. They also contain random gems.
  • Colour-topped Chests: These pop up less often. They're a bit bigger than wooden chests, with a wooden bottom and a colored top. The color of the top tells you what color gem is inside! To get the gem, you need to flame or charge the chest, then jump on the gem as it pops out. If you catch it, the chest breaks. Advanced attacks can also destroy these instantly.
  • Strong Chests: These are pretty rare! They're metal, cuboid-shaped, and wrapped in chains. You absolutely need an advanced attack like a supercharge or powerflame to break these open, and they release a ton of gems.
  • Locked Chests: These are super rare, maybe as rare as Strong Chests. They look like Strong Chests but have a lock. While you can destroy them like Strong Chests, you usually won't have an advanced attack ready. You'll need to find a specific key within the level to unlock them.
  • Life Chests: These are fairly common and are the only chests that give you extra lives! They're purple with eyes peeking out. Any attack will break them, but be careful: charging them causes Spyro to bounce off.

That covers all the chest types I've found! If you stumble upon any I missed, definitely let me know.

Level Navigation

The game is split into lots of different levels, and you'll travel between them using portals found in the 'home' levels. These portals are arch-shaped with the level name above them. Just walk into one, and Spyro will automatically fly you there, setting a checkpoint.

When you're in a regular level, you'll find a 'Return Home' vortex near the end. Jumping into this takes you back to the home world. You can also press START and select 'Exit Level,' but your progress might not be saved until you use the vortex.

To hop between different worlds entirely, you'll need to find the Balloonist in a home level. If you meet his gem requirements, he'll whisk you away to another world. There are 35 levels in total across the game.

Types of Levels:

  • Home: You start here and return after completing levels. These levels link to all others in their world and even other home worlds. They're generally safe places with basic enemies, and you'll need to explore them to unlock new areas. There are 6 home levels.
  • Regular: These are your main gameplay levels, accessed from the home worlds. Most are available from the start of a world. They're where you'll find most collectibles, challenges, and tougher enemies. A 'Return Home' vortex marks the end of each. There are 17 regular levels.
  • Flight: Found in each world (except the last), these are timed challenges where you fly freely. Your goal is to destroy all 32 obstacles within the time limit. Destroying obstacles gives you extra time, and you can collect 300 gems (30 per set of 8 destroyed, plus a bonus for clearing all 32). These are optional if you're not aiming for 100% gem collection. There are 5 flight levels.
  • Boss: You'll usually find the portal to a boss level near the end of the home levels. These levels are similar to regular levels, culminating in a boss fight after freeing a dragon. While some bosses are just tougher enemies, they're still a key part of progressing. There are 6 boss levels.
  • Bonus: These are super secret and have no info provided here! There's only one bonus level in the game.

Health & Lives: Just a quick note – you can take damage from falling, drowning, and enemies. The game also has a limited-life system, so keep an eye on those lives!
