Flint Marko, better known as the Sandman, started as a petty criminal named William Baker. His life took a dramatic turn when, while evading the police, he hid near a nuclear test site. Exposure to the irradiated sand transformed him into a silicon-based supervillain capable of manipulating his sandy form into any shape or consistency, from solid stone to a destructive sandstorm.
