Shin Megami Tensei IV features several downloadable content (DLC) that significantly expands the game's offerings, from challenging battles and unique demon acquisitions to valuable item farming opportunities. These quests can be accessed from the Hunter Association in various locations once purchased and downloaded.

Challenge Quests: Demon Acquisition

Several DLC quests are designed to allow players to recruit powerful or unique demons that are otherwise unobtainable or difficult to acquire. Completing these quests often unlocks the ability to fuse these demons in the Cathedral of Shadows.

Clipped Wings 1

Objective: Defeat the Archangel Uriel.
Location: This quest typically takes place in a dedicated battle arena accessible via the Hunter Association.
Strategy: Uriel is a formidable foe with strong physical attacks and Fire-based skills. Focus on demons with Ice (Bufu) and Electric (Zio) affinities, as Uriel is weak to these elements. Ensure your party has demons capable of debuffing Uriel's attack and defense (e.g., Tarunda, Rakunda) and buffing your own party (e.g., Tarukaja, Rakukaja). Physical attacks with Pierce can also be effective.
Reward: Unlocks Uriel for fusion.

Clipped Wings 2

Objective: Defeat the Archangel Raphael.
Location: Similar to Clipped Wings 1, this battle occurs in a special arena.
Strategy: Raphael specializes in Force (Zan) and Light (Hama) attacks. Bring demons resistant or null to these elements. His weaknesses are typically Fire (Agi) and Ice (Bufu). Be prepared for potential instant-death attacks from Hama skills. Demons with high Agility and Luck can help evade these.
Reward: Unlocks Raphael for fusion.

Clipped Wings 3

Objective: Defeat the Archangel Gabriel.
Location: Another arena-based battle.
Strategy: Gabriel uses Ice (Bufu) and Light (Hama) attacks. Exploit her weaknesses, which are typically Fire (Agi) and Electric (Zio). Like Raphael, she can use instant-death skills, so prepare accordingly with demons that nullify or reflect Light.
Reward: Unlocks Gabriel for fusion.

Clipped Wings 4

Objective: Defeat the Archangel Michael.
Location: The final Archangel battle, taking place in a dedicated arena.
Strategy: Michael is the most powerful of the Archangels, using Almighty and Physical attacks. He has no elemental weaknesses, making this a test of raw power and endurance. Focus on strong physical attackers with Pierce, and demons with high HP and resistances to Physical and Almighty. Debuffing Michael and buffing your party are crucial. Consider demons with healing and support skills like Mediarahan and Luster Candy.
Reward: Unlocks Michael for fusion.

Ancient One of the Sun

Objective: Defeat the demon Huang Long.
Location: This quest usually leads you to a specific area within the overworld or a dungeon.
Strategy: Huang Long is known for his powerful Electric (Zio) attacks and high stats. He is typically weak to Ice (Bufu). Ensure your party has demons with strong Ice skills and resistance to Electric attacks. Debuffs on Huang Long and buffs on your party are essential for managing his damage output.
Reward: Unlocks Huang Long for fusion.

Challenge Quests: Item and Experience Farming

These DLC quests are excellent for accumulating valuable resources, experience points, and Macca, making progression smoother.

Hunter Tournament Finals

Objective: Survive multiple rounds of increasingly difficult demon encounters.
Location: An arena-style battle accessible from the Hunter Association.
Strategy: This quest is a gauntlet. Bring a well-balanced team capable of handling various elemental attacks and physical damage. Focus on demons with diverse elemental coverage and strong healing capabilities. The later rounds feature powerful demons, so ensure your party is adequately leveled and equipped.
Reward: High experience points, Macca, and rare items like Balm of Rising or Great Chakra upon completion. This is an excellent quest for late-game leveling.

A Grimoire for the Ages

Objective: Defeat specific demons to acquire Grimoire items.
Location: This quest often involves revisiting certain dungeon areas where specific demons are guaranteed to spawn.
Strategy: The demons encountered are usually not overly challenging if you are at an appropriate level. The main goal is to efficiently defeat them to farm the Grimoires. Grimoires are invaluable for instantly leveling up your demons, making this quest highly recommended for strengthening your roster.
Reward: Multiple Grimoire items (e.g., Grimoire, Large Grimoire).

Death unto the Unclean

Objective: Defeat powerful, high-level demons for significant experience.
Location: Often takes place in a designated battle zone.
Strategy: This quest pits you against strong, often unique, demons that grant massive experience upon defeat. These battles can be challenging and require optimized party setups, exploiting weaknesses, and robust healing. It's an excellent way to quickly level up your protagonist and demons in the late game or New Game+.
Reward: Substantial experience points, making it one of the best quests for power-leveling.

Offensive Manuals

Objective: Acquire Offensive Manual items.
Location: Similar to A Grimoire for the Ages, this quest involves farming specific demon encounters.
Strategy: The demons are typically not as strong as those in "Death unto the Unclean." The focus is on efficient combat to gather the manuals. Offensive Manuals are used to teach your demons new skills, making this quest crucial for optimizing demon builds.
Reward: Multiple Offensive Manual items.
