Guide to Chapter VII: The Wrath of Nemesis in Ryse: Son of Rome. Learn strategies for fighting Romans, using the scorpion ballista, and defeating Commodus.
Walkthrough
- 1Begin by walking through the crowd. Collectibles and vases can be found; smashing vases refills Focus or grants XP.
- 2You will reach an abandoned colosseum where a group of Roman enemies will attack. Defeat them.
- 3Another batch of enemies will appear. Kill them.
- 4Climb the wall to the stairs on the far right and proceed up to a courtyard with more enemies.
- 5Fight your way through the courtyard enemies until you reach a ladder.
- 6Climb the ladder to a scorpion ballista. Use it to eliminate all enemy archers in the garden area.
- 7Descend and engage the melee enemies that appear.
- 8Continue to the next area, passing a gate on your right as you ascend stairs, and then another gate at the top.
- 9The gate at the top of the stairs is a false path. Kill all enemies in the area.
- 10The other gate you passed can now be kicked through to progress. If lost, hold up to reveal an objective marker.
- 11Move through the trench of dead bodies, climb the next ledge, and grab the Vista collectible. Continue through the wilderness to reach your old home.
- 12After a scene, Marius will have new armor. You'll be in a small arena to win over the crowd by performing executions.
- 13After each wave of enemies, more powerful foes will appear. Spikes on the walls can be used to your advantage, especially against dual-club wielding enemies. Use Focus and kick them into spikes, or use executions near the wall.
- 14Note that Focus meter is lost after cut-scenes that move Marius between locations.
- 15Following another cut-scene, proceed to the bright steps leading outside to a large arena.
- 16This arena features a shifting landscape and is similar to the multiplayer arena. The objective is to retell Commodus's triumphs.
- 17Fight enemies, block traps, and work with fellow gladiators, though you will do most of the fighting. Build up your Focus meter for the upcoming boss fight.
- 18Eventually, the gladiators will turn on you. Kill them all.
- 19Go to the pot of fire and knock it over to ignite the aqueduct.
- 20Prepare for a boss fight against Commodus.
Boss Fight: Commodus
- Commodus has a variety of attacks. It is recommended to parry his attacks by tapping 'A' at the last second rather than rolling.
- After a successful parry, you can land two to three hits. Focus is less effective during this initial phase.
- Commodus will summon gladiators dressed as him. Use Focus to quickly dispatch them and perform executions.
- If an execution symbol does not appear above an enemy, it is likely the real Commodus. Move on to other copies.
- Commodus will poison Marius. Stand still and wait for the Commodus copies to charge. Tap 'A' when they attack to trigger a counter-sequence.
- After this, Commodus will resume the battle, and Marius will be at full health. Fight him using the same parry strategy as the beginning of the fight.
Tips
- Smash vases to refill Focus or gain XP.
- Use the arena spikes to your advantage against certain enemies.
- Prioritize parrying Commodus's attacks over rolling.
- Save Focus for when Commodus summons his copies.
- Pay attention to execution prompts to identify the real Commodus.
