Rayman: This is you! You're the main hero, a limbless wonder with a surprising amount of punch. Don't let his unique physique fool you; you'll gain his signature punch attack early on, which is your go-to for dealing with those pesky baddies. Keep an eye out for it in the first world!

Betilla the Fairy: She's one of the good guys who tried to stop the villain, Mr. Dark, from snatching the Great Protoon. She's not just a damsel in distress, though! Betilla will pop up throughout your journey to grant you special abilities. You'll absolutely need these to progress, so pay attention to what she teaches you (and definitely check out the controls section to get a handle on them).

Mr. Dark: This is your main antagonist, the shady character who nabbed the Great Protoon. Your ultimate goal is to take him down and get the Protoon back where it belongs. The game hints that Mr. Dark hides his face because if Rayman saw how ugly he really was, he might not even bother saving the world. Talk about motivation!

The Magician: Keep an eye out for special hats scattered throughout some levels. If you approach one with 10 Tings (the game's currency), it'll transform into The Magician. He'll offer you a special challenge, usually to collect all the Tings in a bonus level. Nail it, and you'll earn yourself a precious 1-Up!

Photographer: Think of this guy as your friendly checkpoint. You'll encounter him in every level, and he'll snap a photo of you. If you happen to meet an unfortunate end later on, you'll respawn right where the Photographer last took your picture. Super handy for minimizing lost progress!
