Alright, trainers! So you've jumped into the world of Pokémon Scarlet and are ready for more adventure. This guide is all about "The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask," the first big DLC for your game. It dropped on September 13, 2023, and it's a whole new story set in a place called Kitakami. To even start this journey, make sure you've begun the Treasure Hunt in your main Pokémon Scarlet game. ### Plot: A Trip to Kitakami So, here's how it kicks off: Professor Jacq from the academy contacts you. He's picked you and a few other students for a special trip to Kitakami, a land to the east. Leading the group is Briar, a teacher from Blueberry Academy (that's the sister school to Naranja Academy in Unova, remember?). Briar is super excited because she's a descendant of Heath, the guy who wrote the original Scarlet Book. She's got a copy of his manuscript and is on the hunt for a Pokémon called Terapagos, hoping to clear Heath's name. She's still waiting on the Pokémon League to let her explore Area Zero, though. Once everyone's rounded up, you head off to Kitakami. Your first stop is Mossui Town. There, you'll meet Carmine and Kieran, siblings who are also students at Blueberry Academy. Carmine's a bit prickly towards outsiders, just a heads-up! After settling into the local community center, your caretaker gives you a task: pair up and find three signboards scattered around Kitakami to learn their stories. Carmine suggests you team up with Kieran. You two find the first two signboards, which tell the tale of the Loyal Three and an ogre they supposedly fought. Kieran's a fan of the ogre, though, and takes you to its old home, the Dreaded Den on Oni Mountain. ### The Festival of Masks and a Hidden Truth You and Kieran decide to save the last signboard for later so you can join the Festival of Masks, a yearly celebration honoring the Loyal Three. During the festival, you have a surprise encounter with the ogre, Ogerpon! She accidentally drops her Teal Mask, and Carmine decides to keep it a secret from Kieran for a bit. The next day, you show the mask to Carmine's grandfather. He reveals the *real* story: ages ago, Ogerpon and a man came to Kitakami but were treated poorly because of how they looked. They had to live up on Oni Mountain. A kind mask maker took pity on them and made them masks using jewels the man had brought. These masks let them hide their faces and join the village festival. But, three greedy Pokémon saw the beautiful masks and attacked, stealing three of the four Ogerpon had. Heartbroken and angry, Ogerpon put on the last mask and went after them, defeating the thieves. The villagers, not knowing the truth, thought the three Pokémon died protecting them from a rampaging ogre and hailed them as heroes – the Loyal Three. Carmine is furious that everyone's been worshipping bad guys! Her grandfather warns her not to tell anyone, as the mask maker was labeled a heretic for speaking the truth back then. Since the Teal Mask got chipped, you leave it with Carmine's grandfather to fix. You and Kieran go to find the last signboard. Little does Kieran know, he overheard his grandfather's story and feels totally betrayed that you and Carmine kept the truth about Ogerpon from him. ### The Crystal Pool and a Stolen Mask The next day, you and Carmine head to the Crystal Pool at the top of Oni Mountain to get a Crystal Cluster needed to repair the Teal Mask. Up there, you bump into Briar again. She mentions that the crystals here give off energy similar to the Terastal phenomenon and she wants to figure out how to use it outside of Paldea. Back in Mossui Town, you and Carmine discover Kieran has stolen the Teal Mask! You chase him to Loyalty Plaza, where he accuses you both of treating him like the villagers treated Ogerpon. He challenges you to a Pokémon battle for the mask. After you win, Kieran punches the Loyal Three Monument in frustration and gives the mask back before running off. Suddenly, the monument glows, and the Loyal Three are resurrected! They head to Kitakami Hall, where the still-clueless townspeople give them three masks (Hearthflame, Wellspring, and Cornerstone) and feed them mochi, making them bigger and stronger. ### Saving Ogerpon and Retrieving the Masks You and Carmine step in to save Ogerpon from the revived Loyal Three. Your mission now is to get Ogerpon's masks back from those three. Your journey continues as you track down the powered-up Loyal Three and defeat them, successfully retrieving Ogerpon's masks.
