Ready to take on Alfornada Gym in Pokémon Scarlet? Learn how to beat Nemona, pass the Emotional Spectrum Practice, and defeat Gym Leader Tulip!
Before you even think about challenging the Gym Leader, you'll have a run-in with Nemona. She's got four Pokémon lined up for you: Lycanroc (Lv. 42), Sliggoo (Lv. 42), Pawmot (Lv. 42), and the final evolution of the starter Pokémon that's strong against yours (Lv. 43).
For Lycanroc, bring out your Fighting-, Grass-, Ground-, Steel-, or Water-types. Sliggoo is weak to Dragon-, Fairy-, or Ice-types, but go easy on the Dragon-types there. Pawmot can be handled with Ground-, Fairy-, or Psychic-types. Your best bet against the final starter evolution is, you guessed it, your own starter Pokémon!
Next up is the Gym test: Emotional Spectrum Practice. This one's a bit different. You'll need to pay close attention to Dendra and her Medicham, and quickly press the A, B, X, or Y button to match the emotions shown. Get it right, and you'll pass!
Finally, it's time to face Gym Leader Tulip, who specializes in Psychic-type Pokémon. Your best offensive types here are Bug, Dark, and Ghost. Just be aware that each of her Pokémon has a move that can counter those types. Farigiraf knows a Dark-type move (watch out, Bug-types!), Gardevoir and Florges have Fairy-type moves (so Dark-types beware!), and Espathra uses a Ghost-type move (making it tricky for both Dark- and Ghost-types).
Tulip's team consists of Farigiraf (Lv. 44), Gardevoir (Lv. 44), Espathra (Lv. 44), and her ace, Florges (Lv. 45), which has a Tera-type of Psychic.
After you defeat Tulip, you'll earn the Alfornada Gym Badge, TM120 Psychic, and 8,100 prize money. Plus, Pokémon up to Lv. 55 will be much easier to catch and will obey you without question!
Optional: You can take on new classes at the Academy before heading to the next Gym. For your next destination, check out the Glaseado Gym section.
