He's the head honcho at the Utsugi Detective Agency, and a pretty important character throughout the series. He'll actually take you in as his assistant detective after a chance encounter where he helps you out of a jam with the police. Think of it as a bit of on-the-job training! Later on, Utsugi will assign you to the Yoko Kojima murder case, while he tackles the Kaneda Case himself. Don't worry, though, you're both working towards the same goal, and you'll find a connection between the two cases pretty early on. Utsugi will keep you in the loop with his findings. He even sets up an answering machine at the agency to make sure messages get through. Eventually, you'll both reach a conclusion on the culprits for both cases. After that, Utsugi and Chief Maruyama will go investigate the school, which, unbeknownst to you, actually saves you and Ayumi from the real killer. Once everything calms down, Utsugi decides to take Ayumi Tachibana in as an assistant detective too. It’s a busy office!
