Learn how to fish in NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... Master the controls, find the best bait, and catch every fish and trash item with our comprehensive guide.
Fishing is unlocked during Part 1 of the main story. After this, you can fish in any body of water or sand in the game world. To fish, you need to move the left analog stick in the opposite direction of the fish's movement. The controller vibration indicates how accurate your movements are: more intense vibration means you are doing well, while low vibration means you are off course. Continue this until the fish's HP is depleted.
Your fishing skill can be improved by completing the Fishing side quests. The more quests you complete, the easier fishing becomes, and some fish are impossible to catch without doing so. You can also instantly reel in a fish by pressing X while reeling, but this has a success rate dependent on the fish's remaining HP, so it's best used when the fish is nearly caught.
You will catch most fish while completing side quests. The remaining few can be caught by actively seeking them out. You may also catch various types of trash, some of which, like rusted buckets and rusted clumps, are useful for weapon upgrades. All bait can be purchased from the bait shop in Seafront.
There's a hidden mechanic that helps determine what's on your line and is crucial for catching certain fish:
- Normal: 2 bobs before the lure goes under. Start reeling.
- Rare: After the first bob, immediately start reeling. (Applies to very few fish, about 3).
- Trash: 1 bob and the lure goes under. Start reeling.
It is advised to focus on finishing the fishing requests as soon as possible, as this makes catching other fish much easier.
