The "Absolver" side quest is a challenging undertaking that tests your combat prowess and moral compass. It involves hunting down a rogue knight who has abandoned his vows and is now preying on the innocent, forcing you to make a difficult decision about his fate.

The "Absolver" side quest typically becomes available after you've established yourself in the "Crumbling Hamlet" or a similar early-to-mid game hub. You'll be approached by a distressed villager or a concerned member of a knightly order, informing you of a former comrade, Sir Kaelen, who has turned to banditry and cruelty. Your objective is to track down Sir Kaelen, who is known to frequent the "Whispering Woods" or the "Abandoned Watchtower." The journey to find him involves navigating through areas populated by his former subordinates or creatures he has corrupted. Upon locating Sir Kaelen, you'll find him in a state of deep despair or fanatical conviction, depending on your choices. The quest culminates in a boss fight against him. Sir Kaelen is a skilled warrior, wielding a heavy greatsword and employing powerful, sweeping attacks. He also has a unique ability to temporarily bolster his defenses by drawing on his "fallen faith," making him resistant to damage. To defeat him effectively, you'll need to parry his heavy blows to create openings or exploit his brief moments of vulnerability after his most powerful attacks. After defeating him, you are presented with a choice: spare his life and allow him to seek penance, or deliver him to justice (which often means execution). Sparing him might lead to him becoming a future ally or offering a unique reward later, while delivering him to justice might grant immediate rewards but close off future narrative paths. The "Absolver" quest is a prime example of the moral ambiguity present in Mortal Sin.
