Learn essential sword combos, battle arts, and weapon attributes for Medieval Dynasty. Dominate early game and optimize your endgame setup for maximum effectiveness.

The sword is the starting weapon in Dynasty Warriors Origins, known for its ease of use and familiar mechanics for players of previous titles. Its normal attacks chain smoothly into strong attacks, making it an excellent choice for beginners. While effective throughout the game, its damage output may fall behind other top-tier weapons in the endgame, potentially requiring longer to defeat enemies.

Combos:

  1. Nx5 + S spam: Strong attacks can stagger enemies, interrupting their actions.
  2. Nx4 + S to launch: After launching an enemy into the air, continue with strong attacks until the combo finishes. This is the primary 1v1 combo for the sword.
    • After landing, you can add Mad Blade Rush (MBR) to pursue and destroy an enemy's fortitude.
    • While airborne, you can end the strong attack string early and chain into Flying Dragon Slash (FDS). Another FDS can be chained after landing if desired.
  3. Nx1 + S to launch: Mad Blade Rush (optional follow-up).
  4. N4 + S into FDS: The enemy will likely be falling back down, preventing follow-up aerial strong attacks.
  5. N5 + S spam: Enemies may recover during this combo, negating further fortitude damage. Best used in duels where only health damage is a concern.
  6. N1 + S to launch -> Divine Eagle Dance, followed by:
    • N4 + S into FDS. No aerial S spam.
    • N2 or N4 + S spam if no bravery or low enemy fortitude.

Combo 2 is your go-to for engaging officers once they are vulnerable. The initial strong attack launches the enemy, allowing for a follow-up string of strong attacks. To chain into a Battle Art (BA) like FDS, it must be used before the aerial combo concludes. This can be effective in large crowds and against multiple officers if an opening presents itself.

Mad Blade Rush is excellent for chasing down enemies and depleting their last bit of fortitude, but it carries risk in duels. Combo 4 is primarily used with Divine Eagle Dance, which is unlocked in Chapter 4 after speaking with an NPC in Yang Province.

Most Useful Battle Arts:

  • Falcon Flurry: A good ranged BA that combos with your air combo upon landing. Useful until Flying Dragon Slash is acquired.
  • Flying Dragon Slash: A long-range aerial BA that can hit multiple officers. Replaces Falcon Flurry.
  • Fickle Fury: A crucial skill for duels and large armies, acting as a counter that nullifies non-Red attacks.
  • Mad Blade Rush: Useful for combo links and chasing enemies. A strong contender, often chosen over Fickle Fury, though BAs can be swapped during missions. Fickle Fury is recommended for duels and very difficult large army battles, though other weapons might be better suited for the latter.
  • Swallow Slash: A quick, low-cost BA that pushes enemies away. Useful early on and potentially later with the Disc of Huanglong to reduce its cost.
  • Shadow Dance: Situational and useful in duels, but has a high bravery cost and its mastery is considered ineffective.
  • Divine Eagle Dance: A large AoE BA that slows time, breaks 3.5 shields, and costs 6 bravery (5 with Disc of Huanglong). Use with caution due to vulnerability during its long animation. Unlocked by talking to the Elder NPC in Yang Province during Chapter 4.
  • Sp. Ice Luan: An alternative to Divine Eagle Dance, costing more but dealing greater health and fortitude damage with a larger AoE.
  • Shadowless Blade: A BA that performs a mini back-evade and creates a small damaging whirlwind. Can be used to dodge attacks while the whirlwind damages enemies, though it requires high skill.

Recommended Endgame Setup:

  • Mad Blade Rush/Fickle Fury
  • Flying Dragon Slash
  • Palm Strike/Power Shot
  • Divine Eagle Dance/Sp. Ice Luan

Mad Blade Rush aids in chase and combo linking, Fickle Fury excels in duels and against large armies, Flying Dragon Slash extends combos, and Divine Eagle Dance/Ice Luan serve as ultimate BAs.

Weapon Attributes:

  • +10% Damage, -5% Defense
  • +10% Officer Damage
  • + Increase Parry Window (Personal Choice)
  • +10% Bravery Gain
  • +10% Assault Damage
  • +10% Wushu (Fortitude) Damage

The attribute for increased parry window is a personal preference for consistent parrying.

Rank 8 Weapon: Lurking Luan. This weapon is recommended for a significant power boost after completing a New Game Plus.

Chapter 1 Objective: Defeat Zhang Bao within 15 minutes in the final battle against the Yellow Turbans. This stage is considered very easy.
