Learn how points are awarded after each race in Mario Kart DS based on your placement and the number of players, and how these affect your overall wins and losses.

Alright, so you've just finished a race in Mario Kart DS! It's not quite over yet, as there's some important info you get right after crossing the finish line. This is how the game figures out who's doing well and keeps track of your progress.

Basically, after every race, you and everyone else in the match get points based on where you finished. It's a little different depending on how many people were racing:

  • 4-person match: 1st place gets 10 points, 2nd gets 7, 3rd gets 4, and 4th gets 1.
  • 3-person match: 1st place gets 10 points, 2nd gets 7, and 3rd gets 4.
  • 2-person match: 1st place gets 10 points, and 2nd gets 5.

After all four tracks in a set are done, all those points are added up. This is what determines your final standing for that set of races. But it's not just about the points you score; it also affects your win/loss record.

Here's how the wins and losses shake out:

  • You get a 'win' for every person you finished ahead of. So, if you came in first in a 4-person race, you'd get 3 wins (because you beat 3 other people).
  • You get a 'loss' for every person who finished ahead of you. If you came in last in a 4-person race, you'd get 3 losses (because 3 people beat you).
  • If you happen to tie with someone, it doesn't count as a win or a loss for either of you.

Important Note: If you disconnect from a race for any reason, the game automatically counts it as a loss against everyone else in that match. So, if you disconnect in a 4-person race, you'll get 3 losses right away. Try to stay connected!

Once all the races are done and your wins/losses are tallied, you'll see an option to either 'Continue' or 'Quit'.

  • If you hit Continue, the game will set up another set of 4 races with the same group of players (as long as they also choose to Continue).
  • If you're done playing for the day, or just don't want to race with the same people anymore, hit Quit to exit back to the main menu.
