Complete Part 6 of Half-Life: Alyx, including strategies for the Green Guardian and the Valley of Guardian.
Walkthrough
- 1Look left or right along the wall to spot the Green Guardian (Greeny) at the far end of the room.
- 2Wait for Greeny to attack a stalagmite, then sprint around it and away to the next bug tunnel.
- 3Enter and quickly pass through tunnel #1, grabbing the XP web (experience points) as you approach.
- 4Exit tunnel #1 and sprint left to tunnel #2. Sprint when allowed, stand in the tunnel, and grab the XP web on approach.
- 5Exit tunnel #2 straight out and sprint to and over the 2 SBs (small boulders) on the ground, leading to tunnel #3.
- 6Enter tunnel #3 before Greeny moves into the area.
- 7Sprint when able, grab the XP web, and enter Ring around the Rosy.
- 8In this room, Greeny will likely throw boulders until it charges. Keep eyes on it; when you lose line of sight (LOS) due to the stalagmite, listen for it to start running and sprint away.
- 9Press jump while sprinting during long straight stretches to bunny hop (BH) about 40-50 feet to tunnel #4.
- 10Tunnel #4 is a hidey hole, not a tunnel. Enter #4 only deep enough to avoid an attack. Greeny will stop at the opening and then move off along the previous tunnel.
- 11As Greeny turns away and disappears around the bend, move to the entrance and exit #4.
- 12Go left and sprint to the tunnel fork. Quickly switch (QS) to a shotgun (SG) on your way.
- 13Sprint right at the fork and pass both bug tunnels. You should hear Greeny galloping halfway between bug tunnel #2 and the boarded-up XP on the right side of the tunnel.
- 14Be prepared to bunny hop (BH) the last 40 feet to the XP. As you approach the right side post of the XP, shoot one round (rnd) into the space between the top and bottom outer boards.
- 15Both boards should break. Shoot a second round (rnd #2) into the inner diagonal board as you stop to face the XP, then shoot a third round (rnd #3) into the top/furthest floorboard in the small room.
- 16Quickly move to and drop through the floor gap to avoid damage from Greeny.
- 17Enter the next cavern. Go right to the bug hole after popping the web for revolver and shotgun ammo.
- 18Grab some debris and drop it by the elevator lever. Locate the missing gear and return to the elevator lever.
- 19Offer the barnacle the debris, then pop the gear on before it drops the crap.
- 20Move to the elevator, press the button, and wait for Steve.
- 21When Steve finishes talking, follow him to the larva java, then back to Alyx and the others.
- 22After the ritual is complete and you are done with Mr. Creepy, enter the lift and ride it up.
- 23Locate the last hole you need to drop down through in this chapter.
- 24When you hit the ground, you will be in chapter 3, Freeman Pontifex.
3.3a, Into the Valley of Guardian
- Drop to the floor and run up the ramp to the bright outside.
- Clear barrels from your path, then run/sprint/hop down the slope to the SC (supply cache), take the goodies, and continue forward and left around the rock wall.
- Hold for a bit to take in the surroundings: 3 thumpers, EBs (energy barriers), a couple of ETs (equipment tools), and SCs are scattered about.
- At the far end of the valley, you can see an enclosure surrounding thumper #3. This is your first goal.
- Wait for your comrades to catch up for fire support, then head for the enclosure.
- On your way to the enclosure, pick up the ET near thumper #1, then bunny hop (BH) to the enclosure. You may take a hit or two from behind on the way.
- Alyx and Steve temporarily clear the valley of ASA (anti-spawn anomalies) and ALs (alien lifeforms) while you set up your defense and offense.
- Locate the car engine and steel bundle, bring them into the enclosure, and set the engine down just inside the opening, facing and pointing halfway between the 2 guardian EPs (energy points) to the valley.
- Leave the steel anywhere inside the enclosure.
- Head out to the right of the green guardian's EP for the 2 EBs.
- Place EB #1 inside the enclosure to the left or right of the engine, covered by the enclosure wall or rock outcrop.
- Set your pistol to quick switch (QS) then grab and place (GGP-) EB #2 and carry it to introduce yourself to Greeny.
- Bunny hop (BH) to the ore car closest to Greeny's EP, drop EB #2, QS to pistol, and target EB #3 at the mouth of the Green guardian EP.
- Wait for Greeny to move to the side of EB #3, then shoot 3 rapid fire rounds into it.
- QS to the GG (gravity gun), grab and place (GGP-/+) EB #2 to Greeny, then sprint left to EBs #4 & 5 near the elevator.
- You may be required to destroy (junk) 1-2 ALs on your way.
- ASAP, grab and place (GGP-/+) EB #4 & 5 at Greeny, then sprint to EB #6.
- Grab and place (GGP-) EB #6 on your approach, then quickly 180; grab and place (GGP+) EB #6 to Greeny, then sprint back to thumper #3 and the opening with the engine.
- Grab and place (GGP-) the engine upon entry and 180. Most times Greeny follows you right up to the opening.
- If Greeny follows, you can get 2-3 engine shots off with nearly instant RA (rapid acceleration), the engine will likely rebound back at you before Greeny begins backing away.
- If Greeny stops short and stands off from the enclosure, you must exit some and be much more accurate with your shots for timely RA. If this occurs, try to get off 1-2 shots, then back into the enclosure, switch to SG, then get a few rapid fire (RT) / shotgun (SG) salvos.
Tips
- Bug tunnels are routes with supplies and larvae.
- Pressing jump while sprinting can help you bunny hop (BH) over long distances.
- The Green Guardian (Greeny) is a stalagmite-like creature that attacks.
- Use the environment, like stalagmites and tunnels, for cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) from Greeny's attacks.
- Quickly switch (QS) between weapons for faster combat.
- Grab and place (GGP) objects using the gravity gun (GG) to set up traps or deal damage.
- The Valley of Guardian has 3 thumpers, energy barriers (EBs), equipment tools (ETs), and supply caches (SCs).
- When setting up defenses in the Valley of Guardian, place the car engine inside the enclosure facing the enemy EP.
- Use energy barriers (EBs) as explosive traps against Greeny.
- If Greeny stays at a distance, you may need to exit the enclosure to be more accurate with your shots.
