Discover the Pirates' Hideout in Final Fantasy V! Learn how to find the recovery spring, grab the Leather Cap, and eventually commandeer a ship. Includes monster info and tips.

Okay, so you've made it to the Pirates' Hideout! It's a pretty straightforward place, but there are a couple of things to keep an eye out for. Don't worry, I'll walk you through it.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
As soon as you get to the entrance, you and the party will dismount Boko. Yeah, sad to leave the chocobo, but we need to go inside.
  2. 2
Once inside, head up and to the left. You'll find a spot where you can enter the water. This is a recovery spring! Just stepping into the water will restore all your HP, MP, and cure any status ailments. It even revives fallen party members.
  3. 3
This spring is super handy. If you want to grind a few levels, just fight some monsters, then hop in the water to recover. It's a great little spot for it.
  4. 4
When you're done recovering or leveling, head up the stairs to the right to reach 2F.
  5. 5
On 2F, just keep following the path until you run into a pirate. He'll show you how to open a secret door.
  6. 6
Before you do that, though, grab the chest to the left. It's your first chest in this area, and it contains a Leather Cap.
  7. 7
Now, go up to the switch the pirate showed you and examine it. This will open the secret door you saw.
  8. 8
Head up to 3F. As you go, Bartz will spot something outside and run out to see a ship.
  9. 9
You can follow Bartz out through the opening he used, but honestly, it just leads outside with nowhere to go. You *can* save there if you want, but it's not essential.
  10. 10
Instead, keep going through the main path on 3F until you find the stairs to the next floor.
  11. 11
Now you're in the main part of the Pirates' Hideout. The plan here is to steal the pirates' ship!
  12. 12
You'll see a couple of sleeping guards blocking some doors. Don't worry about them for now.
  13. 13
To the left of the entrance, there's another switch. Pressing it opens a secret passage, but you won't be able to get to it until much later, so just make a note of it.
  14. 14
Head out onto the dock and go right, towards the ship.
  15. 15
There's another sleeping pirate and a locked door below deck, but neither of those are accessible right now.
  16. 16
Go to the very top of the ship where the wheel is. Stand above it and examine it to try and steal the ship.
  17. 17
Surprise! Faris and her crew show up. You'll all be taken prisoner and end up behind that locked door below deck.
  18. 18
It turns out Faris and Lenna have matching pendants. Pretty neat!
  19. 19
Faris decides you guys aren't so bad and lets you go, telling her crew to set sail for the Wind Shrine.
  20. 20
You'll learn how the ship can sail without wind – it's pretty cool!
  21. 21
After that, you'll be asked if you want to sail directly to the Wind Shrine. Say No. Trust me on this one.
  22. 22
Faris will then join your party! Awesome! You now have control of the ship and can sail pretty much anywhere.
Tips
  • Don't forget that recovery spring on 1F! It's a lifesaver if you need to heal up quickly or revive fallen party members.
  • You can fight the monsters here to gain some levels if you feel under-leveled, using the spring to recover between battles.
  • The monsters in this area are: Steal Bat (Level 2, drops Potion, weak to nothing), Devil Crab (Level 3, drops Potion, weak to Ice), and Stroper (Level 3, drops Potion, weak to nothing).
  • The chest on 2F contains a Leather Cap, which is a decent early-game helmet.
  • Remember that switch on the main Hideout floor? It unlocks a path you can't access yet, so don't worry about it for now.
  • Faris joins your party.
  • You gain control of the pirate ship.

Before you head to the Wind Shrine (which is to the north), it's a good idea to sail west and a little north to the Village of Tule. It's a good place to restock and check out the shops.
