Find the best gear in Dragon Quest! Learn where to buy weapons, armor, and shields, and discover special equipment effects to boost your stats and survivability.

Hey there! As you trek across Alefgard, keeping your hero kitted out with the best gear is super important. You can snag new equipment from shops, find it stashed away in treasure chests, or sometimes even discover it in those sparkly spots that pop up. Remember, you can always sell off old gear you don't need anymore – just take the buy price and divide it by two to get your sell price. Some of the gear you might have picked up in earlier towns will also be available for sale in Cantlin.

Some special items have unique effects in battle or out. The Fire Blade, for instance, can be used as an item to unleash flames, dealing 12-36 damage to enemies. Honestly, by the time you get it, its physical attack boost is usually better, but it's a neat trick to have! The Magic Armour is pretty handy, healing you for 1 HP every four steps you take and cutting down spell and fire damage by about 25%. Even better is Erdrick's Armour – it heals you for 1 HP every single step, reduces spell and fire damage by roughly 25%, and best of all, it makes you totally immune to poisonous swamps and damaging floor tiles. Definitely worth hunting down!

Tips for Gearing Up

  • Don't forget that the Fire Blade can be used as an item in battle to cast fire spells, but its physical attack is usually stronger by the time you can buy it.
  • Keep an eye out for Erdrick's Armour; its healing properties and immunity to hazards are invaluable for exploring dangerous areas.
  • The Warrior's Ring doesn't boost stats directly, but it's found in Craggy Cave and is a unique item worth picking up.
