Complete Doom II The Inmost Dens walkthrough, including finding the Red Skull Key, Plasma Gun, and hidden room.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Start outside a stone building. Take the left path, eliminating Zombiemen and an Imp. Watch for hit-scanners firing from windows.
  2. 2
At the passage end, enter the building to your right. Kill three Imps, grab the Megaarmor from the water pool, and shoot a Zombiemen near the south-east staircase.
  3. 3
Examine the recessed east wall between staircases to reveal a hidden room. Kill the Spectre inside and take the Box of Rockets.
  4. 4
Ascend the south-east twisting staircase, dealing with Zombiemen and observing enemies outside windows.
  5. 5
Continue past the bending staircase to a path with hit-scanners. Kill them, note the red door and red skull columns blocking another door.
  6. 6
Return to the level start. Take the left path again and run out a left window, over the stone barrier, into the water.
  7. 7
Turn left to a high ledge (activated like a lift). Reach the top and hit the skull switch. A door below and left opens.
  8. 8
Enter the darkened passage, kill the Imp, hit the wall switch around the corner, and get on the lowering lift, collecting a Rocket Launcher. The lift returns you to the start.
  9. 9
Go back down the bending staircase, past the red door and skull columns. Around the bend, a door on a drawbridge is to your right.
  10. 10
Equip your Rocket Launcher or Plasma Gun to kill the Revenant behind the drawbridge door. Do not go too far inside.
  11. 11
Equip the SSG or Chaingun. Cautiously enter, dealing with six Lost Souls (three on each side).
  12. 12
Equip your Chaingun to kill distant Chaingunners and an Imp to the left of the door. The Red Key is in the same window.
  13. 13
The next wooden door opens automatically. Kill Imps around and in the building ahead.
  14. 14
Step through this door, turn right, and shoot a Chaingunner on a ledge in the water.
  15. 15
Head to the building in front, moving around its left side. Kill enemies in windows and on ledges.
  16. 16
Go to the back of this building, kill two Imps on the staircase, and ascend through the door.
  17. 17
In this room, pick off distant enemies through windows.
  18. 18
Face the oval-shaped window in the center and run through it to land on a bridge.
  19. 19
Kill the Shotgunner and Chaingunner on the bridge and claim their dropped weapons. Shoot another Shotgunner in a window to your right.
  20. 20
Enter the opening ahead. Quickly kill two Zombiemen on the right, then head left down a passage.
  21. 21
Watch for enemies at the passage end and an Imp in the first window on the left. Grab the Large Cell Ammo, a Medikit if needed, and at the end, claim the Red Skull Key and a Plasma Gun.
  22. 22
Backtrack to the double-door bridge, then to the starting area with the red skull columns and red door.
  23. 23
Go through the red door and flip the switch to lower the columns.
  24. 24
Equip your BFG9000. Go through the now-open door and approach the next one (which opens automatically). An Arch-Vile and low-level enemies will attack. Use the BFG9000's main blast on the Arch-Vile and tracers on surrounding monsters.
  25. 25
Quickly back up to the hallway between the two doors.
Tips
  • Be prepared to pick off hit-scanners from windows using your Chaingun or Shotgun.
  • The hidden room is not an official secret, and there are no official secrets on this map.
  • The lift activated by the skull switch returns you to the level's starting point.
  • When fighting the Revenant, do not advance too far into the room.
  • When dealing with the Lost Souls, kill one group before engaging the other to avoid being surrounded.
  • The Red Key is located at the end of a passage after the second wooden door.
  • The BFG9000 is recommended for the Arch-Vile encounter.
