Begin by building defenses around the hill. Send two veteran rifle squads north to find and rescue trapped rangers. This will earn you a medal.

Capture as many points as possible with spare infantry during the initial 5-minute grace period. Build tank traps around Mortain and an MG emplacement behind the point. Station a squad near your main HQ for reinforcements.

Surround the hill with tank traps and 3-4 MG emplacements covering critical entrances. Crew your AT guns and send MGs to points by the medic tents. Garrisoning MGs in buildings on points is optional but can increase their longevity.

After a cutscene, German forces will attack from the right side of the map. Reinforce these points with MG emplacements and at least one AT gun. Build a halftrack from the motorpool to act as a quick-response anti-infantry unit and reinforce hot spots.

German artillery will periodically bombard the hill. Watch for flare drops, evacuate the area temporarily, and return to defensive positions after the barrage ceases. Replace lost units and watch for snipers accompanying the German assault force.

Mid-mission, a howitzer becomes available. Hotkey it and defend it with at least a rifle squad. The AI may focus attacks on the howitzer, but strong defenses with tank traps should mitigate this.

If Mortain's defense is overwhelmed, use howitzers to target enemy positions capturing the point, while sending in a standby rifle squad from your HQ to clear remaining enemies.

Your HQ will also face attacks. Ensure engineers build sufficient defenses. The rescued rangers can assist in defending the HQ if needed.

Equip rifle squads with any dropped Panzershrecks for a significant firepower boost.

Enemy attacks are generally in waves. Successfully repelling assaults without heavy losses will keep you in good shape. If the front line falters, consider abandoning points and consolidating forces in the center of the hill, being mindful of artillery. Holding the hill for 30 minutes is the objective; strong defenses may even cause Axis forces to retreat in the final minute.
