Master the Recon by Fire mission in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II! Get expert tips on patrols, building clearing, and nailing those tricky sniper challenges.
Alright, let's get you through the 'Recon by Fire' mission in Modern Warfare II. This one's all about stealth and precision, especially with Price by your side. We'll cover how to handle patrols, clear buildings, and nail those sniper challenges.
Walkthrough
- 1As the mission kicks off, you and Price are geared up and ready to move through a cartel field. Stick close to Price and keep an eye on the first group of enemies near the truck.
- 2Follow Price again. You'll get a feel for the sync sniping mechanic here as you take out two other recon units.
- 3Next, you'll need to go prone and move through a tunnel under a road. Emerge on the other side to find a walking cartel patrol. Price will tell you to hide your weapon to stay less visible.
- 4To avoid the patrol, we suggest moving slightly to the right, near some yellow flowers by a stone wall. This should help you avoid most of the guards. You might need to shift slowly and carefully when a few more walk your way. Don't move too much when they get close, or they'll spot you. Try to anticipate their path and plan your moves.
- 5Lie down in the grass and inch closer to the wall on the right to avoid the first group of enemies. You'll need to move slowly to dodge the second group.
- 6Once the main patrol passes, there are two stragglers left. You and Price will take them out.
- 7After that, you'll walk for a bit, with some dialogue to fill the time.
First Sniping Challenge:
- Once you've navigated the field, you'll reach a sniping challenge overlooking the windmills. Your objective is to eliminate all armed guards in the area. Some are isolated targets, some are in pairs, and a few require you to reposition and take out two enemies with a single shot.
- You'll need to move near the Windfarm for one collateral challenge and then move to the right of Price for another.
- The targets aren't in a fixed order, but here's how we tackled them:
- One target is alone on the bottom right, near a smoking shed.
- Another is alone on the far right of the compound.
- A third is alone at the very top right, north of the previous one.
- Two targets are together near the far right, beside a forklift.
- Three targets are grouped together in the center-right area. You'll need to position yourself somewhat to Price's right to hit these two.
- The next target is slightly south of the group of three, leaning against one of the round fish hatcheries.
- Another target is slightly to the bottom left of that one, near other hatcheries.
- Two more targets are standing near a building on the bottom left of the camp. Wait for a third person to pass before it's safe to shoot.
- Now, take out the one guard walking by himself.
- The final target in this area is south of some civilian workers gathered around a hatchery.
- Next, you'll need to move to a new spot to take out more guards. Head to the next set of rocks and grass to the right of Price's position. You can now take out two guards near the garage area in the back-center of the compound.
- To the south, there are more guards near a truck. One walks alone and can be picked off when he's behind the object between him and the truck.
- The last set of guards requires you to aim from some rocks on the left side of the wind turbine along the road below you and Price. This should let you line up your final shot. (Check the image above for an example.)
- From that shot, shift your aim towards the pickup trucks at the front of the compound. You'll spot one guy under a truck and another by the car door. You and Price will take both out.
- Finally, move to the left side of the car park for two more guys hanging out by a car. This is another coordinated shot for you and Price.
Second Patrol:
- Lay down near some rocks and yellow flowers to easily avoid the second patrol.
- Now, make your way down the hill towards the compound. A car full of Al Quds soldiers will leave a few trucks and do a quick patrol. It's best to hang back, drop into prone, and hide your weapon. Then, try to position yourself near the rocks on the hill. The guards usually won't cross the rocks, keeping you relatively safe during this second patrol.
Clearing the First Compound:
- Head to the roof of the first building in the compound. You can use flashbangs, tear gas, and smoke grenades to clear out enemies easily, then drop down when it's safe.
- Now, you'll need to clear out two buildings on the ground. We recommend tackling the building on the left first. For your approach, try throwing a smoke grenade into the top-left corner of the skylight. This usually keeps the few enemies in the other room and the back corner pinned down.
- You can then easily spray the guys on the right side of the room with your assault rifle. Reposition yourself to the right side of the skylight and shoot the feet of the guard covering the long angle below the light.
- You can then drop down. This will draw out the remaining hostiles in the other room and the back corner. There's plenty of cover available, but if you're on a harder difficulty, you can pop smoke below you for cover and then use your sniper rifle's thermal scope.
- Once all enemies are dealt with, go to the container in the room and look for clues.
- After that, the game spawns five heavily armored cartel members nearby. Two will come through the door in the second room. We recommend using your Heartbeat sensor here. Then, go through the left door with your sniper rifle out. You can pop one in the head, and Price will snipe the other. Another guard is further...
