About the Stielhandgranate:

Think of these as your go-to for clearing out enemy positions where they're dug in. They pack a serious punch with a high blast damage thanks to their metal casing breaking apart into fragments. While they're not going to do much against a tank's armor, they're fantastic for flushing out enemies hiding behind cover.

Historical Context & Variations:

These grenades have a bit of history. The classic Stielhandgranate 24 had a time fuse you'd activate by unscrewing the bottom and pulling a safety cord. It weighed about 480g and was over 35cm long. The explosive part, the warhead, was about 7.5cm long and 6cm in diameter, packed with 165g of explosives. Different explosives were used throughout the war, so you might see some variations.

Interestingly, the same warhead could be used on its own as the Handgranate 43, which could even be rigged as a mine with a pressure trigger. Pretty versatile!

For a real punch, soldiers sometimes combined a Stielhandgranate 24 with six Handgranate 43 warheads. This beast was nicknamed the 'Geballte Ladung,' or 'forceful charge,' and looked like a flower with the stick grenade as the stem and the other warheads around it.
