    Follow Lucas through the archway and down the path through the marketplace to the gate of the butcher's district.

    Go through the gate and down the street. On the left, find a bag of Pieces (currency used to upgrade equipment).

    Turn back up the street. Lucas will find a back alley; pull a cart away from a gate and go through.

    Drop down into the street. A soldier will emerge. Quickly aim your sling at his head for a headshot (a shot to the head that incapacitates or kills).

    Squat behind the wall ahead. Rats will emerge from a building, and a soldier will take refuge by a torch. Lucas will provide ingredients for Extinguis (an alchemical substance used to extinguish flames).

    Craft some Extinguis and use it with your sling to extinguish the torch, causing rats to swarm the soldier.

    Carefully move past the rats to a barrier. A soldier with a torch is banging on a door. Throw Extinguis at him when he is near the rats.

    Wait for the guard above to become visible. Target him with your slingstone to attract his attention. Aim at the salpeter and wait for the soldier to descend the stairs before bursting the salpeter, extinguishing his torch, and allowing rats to swarm him.

    Head back outside and up the stairs. Two soldiers carrying torches emerge from a doorway near the gate.

    Grab crafting materials from a chest. Throw Ignifer into the brazier ahead.

    Cross the street and climb the stairs opposite. Find a large chest with crafting materials, two bags of Pieces, and a Tool (an item used for upgrades).

    Continue up the stairs onto the wall. Throw an Extinguis grenade towards the two soldiers with torches to extinguish both, causing rats to swarm them.

    Go back down and through the door where the soldiers emerged. Climb the stairs to find a crank that opens the gate.

    When the gate is fully open, release the crank and sprint back down the stairs and through the gate before it closes.

    Make your way along the path until you reach a roadblock. Head towards the cluster of buildings on your right.

    Enter the first building on the left. Find a chest with crafting materials and a bag of Pieces, along with a Knife on the bench.

    Use the workbench to complete your first upgrade. Crafting a Recycling tool (Instruments) is suggested, as it allows you to obtain more pieces by recycling items like the knife. (Note: The knife is not present in New Game+).

    Go back outside. The back gate of the building across the way is chained shut. Follow the fence around to the right and use your sling to break the chain.

    Make your way into the yard and examine the freshly-dug grave.
