Understanding how to effectively traverse the battlefield, evade incoming projectiles, and reposition yourself is paramount to overcoming the myriad threats, from swarms of Genestealers to the devastating plasma blasts of Chaos Terminators. Mastering these mechanics will allow you to stay alive longer, deal more damage, and truly embody the relentless spirit of the Adeptus Astartes.

Core Movement Mechanics

Your primary mode of movement is controlled by the left analog stick (on controller) or WASD keys (on keyboard). This allows for fluid forward, backward, and strafing movement. While you are a formidable warrior, your base movement speed is moderate, designed to allow for precise aiming and positioning. However, the game introduces a crucial mechanic for rapid evasion: the dash or tactical sprint. This is typically mapped to the Right Bumper on a controller or the Left Shift key on a keyboard. Activating this will cause your Space Marine to surge forward in a burst of speed, covering a significant distance quickly.

The Importance of Dodging

Dodging, often executed through the dash mechanic, is your primary defensive tool against direct enemy attacks. When facing a barrage of bolter fire, a well-timed dash can carry you out of the line of fire, preventing critical damage. This is especially vital when facing enemies with high-damage attacks, such as a Khornate Berserker charging with his Chainaxe or a Necron Gauss Flayer's sustained beam. The dash has a short cooldown, so it's not an infinite escape button. You must anticipate enemy attacks and use your dashes strategically. For instance, if you see a Librarian preparing to unleash a psychic blast, a well-timed dash to the side can negate the entire attack.

Advanced Movement Strategies

• Strafe and Shoot: Combine strafing movement with firing your weapon. This allows you to maintain offensive pressure while making yourself a harder target to hit. This is particularly effective against groups of weaker enemies like the cultists found in the ruins of Cadia.
• Dash Canceling: While not a direct mechanic, you can often interrupt the end lag of certain actions, like reloading or melee attacks, with a dash to maintain momentum and readiness.

• Managing Cooldowns: Always be mindful of your dash cooldown. If you've just used it to evade an attack, be more cautious until it's ready again. Over-reliance on the dash without considering its cooldown can leave you vulnerable.
