Lara begins by searching for ruins her father, Richard James Croft, was exploring in the Mediterranean Sea.

Inside these ruins, she enters Niflheim, one of the Norse Underworlds, and finds Thor's Gauntlets but is ambushed by mercenaries sent by Amanda Evert, who steals the Gauntlet.

Lara pursues Amanda to her ship and learns that Jacqueline Natla has been unearthed from Atlantis. Natla reveals that Richard Croft was searching for the wrong Norse Underworld and directs Lara to the coast of Thailand.

In Thailand, Lara discovers another Norse Underworld with a statue of Odin. The Gauntlet is missing, and the map to Thor's artifacts is destroyed. Lara finds a clue left by her father: "Natla. I see your goal and am your puppet no longer. RJC."

Lara deduces that her father hid the Gauntlet beneath Croft Manor in a crypt. She returns to England, retrieves the Gauntlet, and fights two animated tiger skeletons (thralls).

An explosion rocks the manor. Lara escapes to the main hall, where Zip attempts to shoot her. After dealing with Zip, she enters the tech room and encounters her Doppelgänger, who shoots Alister Fletcher before escaping. Alister dies, and Lara, with Zip and Winston, retrieves his body.

Lara resolves to find Thor's Belt and Mjolnir (Thor's hammer) to defeat Natla, stating, "I need Thor's belt to get his hammer, and I need the hammer to kill a God!"

Lara finds the Belt in Southern Mexico after battling more thralls spawned by eitr.

She then travels to Jan Mayen Island to find Mjolnir and confronts Natla, who reveals Helheim is located under the Arctic Sea.

Inside Helheim, Lara finds her mother, Amelia Croft, transformed into a thrall. After pushing the thrall off a ledge, Natla confesses to killing Richard Croft in Thailand.

Lara tries to use Mjolnir against Natla, but her Doppelgänger restrains her while Natla departs to awaken the Midgard Serpent. Amanda intervenes, throwing the Doppelgänger off the ledge and urging Lara to pursue Natla.

Lara finds Natla, who explains the Midgard Serpent is a metaphor for tectonic ridges and that her machine will cause global volcanic eruptions and flash floods.

After Lara disables the device, Natla attempts to hold it up with her own power. Lara throws Mjolnir at Natla, striking her and causing her to fall into the eitr.

As the eitr rises, Amanda and Lara escape via a dais leading back to the one Amelia Croft activated in Nepal. After a brief confrontation, Lara leaves, bidding her mother farewell.
