Navigate Tomb Raider II's Level 17, The Dragon's Lair. Master challenging battles against Xian Spearmen and Ninjas, and prepare for the final dragon encounter. Includes pickup and trophy details.
Walkthrough
- 1Begin by collecting a large Medi Pack (1) and 2 sets of Uzi clips (2, 3) near the entrance.
- 2The general strategy against Xian Spearmen is to avoid letting them get too close, never get cornered, and use running and rolling to create distance for attacks. Back-hopping is less effective as they can outrun it. Constant jumping can be risky if spears are swung. Backflipping while shooting is effective but uses space quickly.
- 3Pass the statue in the doorway to awaken the first Xian Spearman (1). Engage him, aiming to limit damage taken.
- 4Behind the defeated Spearman is a switch. Throwing it awakens a second Spearman (2) from the entrance doorway. It's possible to proceed without disturbing him.
- 5To the right of the entrance door is another switch. Save your game, then throw this switch to awaken the remaining 2 Spearmen (3, 4). This is considered the hardest battle of the game.
- 6After defeating the Spearmen, enter the dark area that opens up. It is highly recommended to lure the six Ninjas out into the lighted room where you fought the Spearmen.
- 7Roll through the opening onto the green flooring and immediately retreat to the lighted area. Two Ninjas (5, 6) should follow. Defeat them using side-jumps while shooting. Collect 2 sets of Uzi clips (4, 5) and a large Medi Pack (6).
- 8Return to the dark room and stay to the right. Roll near the second pillar to release two more Ninjas (7, 8).
- 9Lure these Ninjas back to the lighted room and defeat them. Collect 4 Uzi clips (7, 8, 9, 10).
- 10Roll near the third pillar to release the final two Ninjas (9, 10). Lure them back and defeat them. One will drop a small Medi Pack (11), and the other will drop the Mystic Plaque (12), which opens the door to the Dragon.
- 11Open the door, SAVE, and proceed into the Dragon's Lair.
Tips:
- Enemies in this level are more durable in New Game+, but superior weapons compensate.
- Against a solo Xian Spearman, use the M16 until he veers right, then switch to grenades.
- Against two Spearmen, use the M16 on one, finish with grenades, then use grenades while backflipping on the second.
- Ninjas can be dealt with by luring them two at a time into the big room and using Uzis while side-jumping.
- Against the Dragon, use grenades with the same strategy as with pistols. It takes approximately 22 grenades to defeat him.
