Complete the Offshore Rig level in Tomb Raider II. Learn how to get your pistols, find the Jade Dragon secret, and avoid hazards.
Walkthrough
- 1Go counterclockwise around your starting cell until you find a moveable box. Pull it twice, then enter the alcove and throw the switch to open the door.
- 2Hit Look so you can see again, then roll, run out of the alcove, and jump left onto the movable box. Run across the tops of the three boxes, turn right then left, and escape your cell. Save your game.
- 3Remastered: Skip to the box below.
- 4PS1: The path described in the lavender box below is a superior way to get your pistols if you are willing to sacrifice a little health. The conventional path requires backtracking.
- 5The switch you need to pull is directly ahead. Follow the narrative below the lavender box to pull the switch, access the room where you can surface, get the Secret, and return to the room where you can surface.
- 6Exit the water in the only place you can and follow the path. When you go outside, jump across the gap in the walkway. At the end, safety drop to the ledge below.
- 7Throw the switch to open a hatch under the airplane. Dive into the water, swim through the hatch, and pull a switch to shut off the propellers.
- 8Dive back into the water and swim carefully back through the door near the giant fan. Follow the path back to the switch that opened the hatch under the airplane.
- 9Do a running jump/grab straight at the propeller. Pull up, drop through the hatch in the top of the airplane, and claim your pistols.
- 10Climb back up the ladder. Behind you and to your left is a deck where you can exit the water. Swim over there, pull out, and defeat the rig worker (1) and the gunman (2).
- 11Follow the passage until it opens into a room. From there, you can continue with the narrative here.
Trophy Time -- Don't Even Need to Wet My Feet (Alternative Pistol Acquisition):
- To earn this trophy, recover Lara's pistols without going into the water.
- Turn left and run through the door. Take the path to the left of the booby-trapped ramp and jump over the oncoming enemies.
- Turn right and right again, run against the window, and execute a roll. If done correctly, Lara will end up outside the glass; otherwise, the enemy with the shotgun will eventually shoot out the glass.
- The guy with the gun will shoot at Lara until she gets out of range. Safety drop off the left side of the platform.
- Your pistols are in the airplane, requiring a tricky jump. Get on the far left edge of the platform.
- Warning: If Lara's health is low, refill it with a Medi Pack and Save.
- This is a running jump with a grab. You must grab the section of the wing shown with arrows; grabbing further right will cause Lara to slip and fall into the water. Keep trying until you make the jump.
- Pull up, go left then right, and fall through the gray panel to claim your pistols (1) and the first Trophy of this level. Getting your pistols this way may cost a Medi Pack but saves time and backtracking.
- Dive into the water off the back side of the right wing and proceed with caution.
Avoiding Fans and Finding Secrets:
- Be careful swimming around the huge fans. If Lara gets in their path, she can be sucked in and shredded.
- Swim to the left of the fan to throw the switch that opens the door to the right.
- Staying on the same side of the fan, return to the underwater barrels.
- Surface for air, then re-submerge.
- Head to the right wall and hug it all the way to the door.
- Light a flare to see and follow the tunnel to a room where you can surface for air. Submerge again to pull the switch just underneath the opening you came through. This is a good place to Save.
- To find Secret #1, the Jade Dragon (2), prepare for a long swim. Drop your flare, get back into the water facing the opening, and light a new flare.
- Go back down the underwater passage. Just after a turn to the right, you will see a new path going down. Go there and come up behind a fan.
- Swim past the Dragon, then roll and inch towards it to pick it up.
- Return to the starting room, pull out of the water, and save.
Tips
- The first couple of battles are difficult because Lara is limited to pistols and enemies are resistant to gunfire. You will get Uzis and automatic pistols soon. Try to lose no more than about 1/3 of your life initially.
- You may not need any Medi Packs, but if you can get by with using only 1 - 1.5, that is acceptable.
- Continue to be conservative with ammunition to build a reserve for later levels.
- The Trophies in this level can provide shortcuts that save time at the expense of health.
- If Lara's health is low before the tricky airplane jump, refill it with a Medi Pack and Save.
