Learn about the six or eight options when hosting or joining a game in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands, including Soldier Setup and Server Info.
There are six options when you enter a host's room and eight options if you create your own room.
Soldier Setup
This is where you choose your soldier for a particular map, selecting from four types of soldiers and between male and female. You can choose any weapon available in the game. Always check the Server Info before selecting a weapon to see available kits. If the host has no explosives enabled, you cannot select a weapon with explosives. Xbox LIVE saves your soldier selection for future use, automatically selecting your last choice for a similar map type. If you enter a room with kit restrictions (e.g., no explosives) and your kit has them, you will receive a message and your weapons will revert to their default kit, kit 1.
Team Selection
This option is only available in Co-op and Team modes, and only if the host allows you to choose your own teams. Some hosts prefer random teams, while others assign players themselves. The default platoon colors are blue and red, but the host can change them. There are six slots available on each team, determining your starting position when the mission begins. It is advisable to follow the host's instructions if they request you join a specific color team.
Team Leader Vote
When you select a team, you can vote for a platoon leader. If you do not vote, the game randomly selects a leader from your team. The platoon leader controls the command map and ROE (Rules of Engagement) movements, which is useful if you frequently use commands like Hold, Advance at All Costs, Recon, or Suppress. If you do not utilize these commands, voting for yourself may not be very useful.
Server Info
This section displays all server settings configured by the host. On the left side, from top to bottom: the host's name is shown, followed by a box. If checked, the server is locked, preventing anyone from joining, even with an invite. Below that is the voice chat setting, typically set to "All," allowing everyone to communicate, though cross-team communication is limited to within your own team when alive. Below voice chat is the game type (Solo, Co-op, or Team). Following that are five options:
- Random zones: You will not start in the usual locations. In solo games with respawns, you will respawn (be brought back to life at a checkpoint after death) in a different place each time you die. For team games, your entire team starts in a random spot.
- Threat indicator: Activates a threat indicator on your HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap) that turns red when an enemy is near.
- Random teams: The computer randomly assigns players to teams when the game starts. All players appear white in the room.
- AI backup: Useful for team games, especially Siege. If you have an odd number of players (around nine), this option can fill missing slots with AI, preventing the need to manually switch players between teams. AI can also replace a player who dies.
- Arcade mode: Allows faster movement and better accuracy. This mode is usually turned off unless players want to have fun.
- IFF mode: Options include Names (names appear over teammates), Reticule (hover your reticule over a teammate to see their name), and None (no way to distinguish friend from foe without checking the map). "Names" is the most common setting.
- Respawns: Options are None (out of the game after one death), Team (the team has a set number of respawns), and Individual (you have a set number of respawns). Last Man Standing and Hamburger Hill often have unlimited respawns, while Siege and SAr typically have only one life.
- Kit Restrictions: Any items listed here cannot be brought into the mission unless a specific item is allowed.
On the right side: "Players =" shows the number of people in the room (including invites) and the total allowed players. For example, 8/12 means 8 players are present, and 4 invites are out if only 7 players are visible. Below this are P1 and P2 (P3 and P4 are unused), indicating the color of the players.
- Always check Server Info for kit restrictions before selecting your loadout.
- Pay attention to the host's preferences for team colors and assignments.
- Consider the respawn settings when choosing your playstyle.
