Berries represent a fundamental early-game food source, readily accessible through the use of Gatherer Flags placed near berry bushes. Their primary advantage lies in their simplicity of acquisition; they do not require water to grow or any complex farming infrastructure, making them a reliable option for sustaining your initial beaver population during the very first cycles of the game. While crucial for initial survival and ensuring your beavers don't go hungry, berries offer limited nutritional value and will quickly become insufficient as your colony expands. Therefore, it is imperative to transition to more efficient and sustainable food production methods, such as cultivating crops in Farms, as soon as possible. Relying solely on berries for an extended period will stunt population growth and leave your colony vulnerable to food shortages. Their lack of water dependency, however, makes them a valuable fallback during the initial stages of drought or when water resources are critically low.
