In the vast and perilous world of THRONE AND LIBERTY, you are rarely truly alone. Mercenaries and Companions are invaluable allies who can turn the tide of battle, assist with resource gathering, and even provide unique buffs. Understanding how to recruit, manage, and optimize these allies is crucial for any aspiring champion.

Recruiting Your Allies

There are two primary methods for acquiring Mercenaries and Companions:

1. Mercenary Enlistment: Mercenaries are typically found in specific locations across the World Map, often near major cities or Alliance Bastions. Look for the "Mercenary Post" icon.
   • Initial Recruitment: Speak to the Traveling Hero NPC in the Regional Capital of Solis. They often have a rotating roster of basic Mercenaries available for a small fee of Solant.
   • Specialized Mercenaries: Certain Dungeons and Limited-Time Events may offer unique Mercenary contracts as rewards. For example, completing the "Shadowfen Crypt" Dungeon on Hard difficulty might grant you a contract for the Shadowfen Skirmisher.
   • Alliance Recruitment: Within your Alliance Bastion, the Alliance Technologies tree often has upgrades that unlock more powerful Mercenary types or reduce their recruitment cost. Coordinate with your Alliance to prioritize these upgrades.
2. Companion Acquisition: Companions are generally more unique and often tied to specific quests or achievements.
   • Quest Rewards: Many main story quests and significant side quests will reward you with a Companion. For instance, completing the "Whispers of the Ancient Grove" questline will grant you the Forest Sprite Companion.
   • Menagerie: The Menagerie in your City is where you can interact with and manage your Companions. Some rare Companions can be hatched from Special Chests obtained from Random Enemy Encounters or Spoils of War.
   • VIP Tiers: Higher VIP tiers sometimes offer exclusive Companions as a bonus. Check the In-App Purchase Info for details.

Managing Your Allies

Effective management of your Mercenaries and Companions is key to maximizing their utility.

Mercenary Management

• Deployment: Access your Mercenary roster via the Army tab. You can deploy a limited number of Mercenaries into your active party, typically 2-3 depending on your Champion Talents.
• Upgrading: Mercenaries gain experience from combat and can be leveled up. They also have an equipment slot where you can equip basic gear found from Resource Locations or crafted in the Workshop. Look for Official Equipment specifically designed for Mercenaries.
• Special Abilities: Each Mercenary type has unique abilities. For example, the Stonehide Brute has a taunt ability, while the Windcaller Archer provides ranged damage and a slow effect. Strategically combine Mercenaries to cover your weaknesses.
• Dismissal: If a Mercenary isn't performing, you can dismiss them from the Army tab. Be aware that dismissed Mercenaries are lost permanently.

Companion Management

• Active Companion: You can only have one Companion active at a time. Select your active Companion from the Menagerie interface.
• Companion Skills: Companions possess passive and active skills that provide various benefits. The Forest Sprite Companion, for instance, might offer a small healing over time effect or increased gathering speed for Forest Resources.
• Bonding: Increase your bond with Companions by completing specific tasks or feeding them special items. A higher bond level unlocks new skills and improves existing ones. Check the Companion's profile in the Menagerie for bonding requirements.
• Cosmetics: Some Companions have cosmetic customization options, allowing you to personalize their appearance. These are often unlocked through Lottery draws or Limited-Time Events.

Strategic Deployment and Synergy

The true power of Mercenaries and Companions lies in their synergy with your Champion and other allies.

• PVE Content:
  • Dungeons: For challenging Dungeons, consider bringing a tanky Mercenary like the Ironclad Guardian to absorb damage, alongside a damage-focused Companion like the Blazefire Phoenix for burst DPS.
  • Resource Gathering: When farming Resource Locations, a Companion that boosts gathering speed, such as the Earthbound Golem, is invaluable. Pair them with a Mercenary that can defend against Random Enemy Encounters.
• PVP Content:
  • Alliance Encounters: In large-scale Alliance Encounters, Mercenaries that provide crowd control or area-of-effect damage can significantly impact the battle. The Stormcaller Mage's AoE stun can turn the tide.
  • Seats of Power: When assaulting or defending Seats of Power, a Mercenary with high siege damage or defensive buffs can be crucial. The Siege Breaker is a prime example.

Regularly review your Mercenary and Companion setups. As you progress and acquire new allies, experiment with different combinations to find what best suits your playstyle and the challenges you face in THRONE AND LIBERTY.
