Learn about the effects of reaching Level 4 Vampirism in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, including appearance changes, sun damage, and interactions with guards.

This section details the effects and implications of reaching Level 4 Vampirism in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Level 4 Vampire Effects:

  • Appearance: Aged 15-25 years, wrinkled and pale complexion, red eyes, potential loss of facial hair. Most people will refuse to talk unless their Disposition is raised using Vampiric Seduction.
  • Sun Damage: Continuous, fast-acting health damage when outside between 6 AM and 8 PM. Damage is magnified by sun brightness and reduced by clouds or being underwater. Gat to Oblivion areas block sun damage.
  • Fast Travel: Prohibited during the day. Only possible at night, except from houses in Anvil.
  • Waiting/Resting: Cannot wait outside during the day due to severe damage.
  • Guard Interaction: Guards may only offer the option to run or fight.

Becoming a Vampire:

You can become a vampire once. If cured at Level 4, you cannot become one again. Options include:

  • Completing the Dark Brotherhood questline and accepting Vicente Valtieri's offer.
  • Completing the Mehrune's Razor DLC quest and eating the Beating Heart.
  • Contracting Porphyric Hemophilia from vampire attacks and then sleeping after three days.

Locations of Vampires:

  • Barren Cave - 7 Vampires
  • Beneath the Bloodworks - 8 Vampires
  • Bloodcrust Cavern (Quest) - 10 Vampires
  • Crowhaven (Quest) - 6 Vampires
  • Fanacas (Quest) - 5 Vampires
  • Fort Carmala (Quest) - 7 Vampires
  • Fort Hastrel - 9 Vampires
  • Fort Naso - 3 Vampires
  • Fort Redman - 5 Vampires
  • Fort Redwater - 6 Vampires
  • Fort Vlastarus (Quest) - 4 Vampires
  • Gutted Mine (Quest) - 5 Vampires
  • Jakben Imbel's Catacombs (Quest) - 8 Vampires
  • Lipsand Tarn - 12 Vampires
  • Memorial Cave (Quest) - 16 Vampires
  • Miscarcand (Quest) - 4 Vampires
  • Ninendava (Quest) - 8 Vampires
  • Nornalhorst - 9 Vampires
  • Palace Sewers (Quest) - 4 Vampires
  • Redwater Slough (Quest) - 4 Vampires
  • Sundercliff Watch (Mehrune's Razor DLC) - 20 Vampires

Feeding:

Locate a sleeping person, sneak up, and choose 'Feed' when prompted. Feeding does not harm the victim or turn them into a vampire. Guild Halls are safe places to feed. Be cautious feeding on guards.

Advancing Vampire Powers:

You are always at least Level 1. Leveling up occurs by sleeping or waiting 24 hours after not feeding. Higher levels increase power but also sensitivity to light. Feeding and resting after reaching Level 4 will revert you to Level 1.
