Modules are powerful enhancements for Aegis, providing significant boosts to her abilities and combat effectiveness. Unlike weapons, which are upgraded directly at a Vestal, Modules require a specific process involving crafting and refinement. Understanding this system is crucial for optimizing your build and overcoming the challenges of revolutionary Paris.

Module Slots and Types

Aegis has four dedicated Module slots, each corresponding to a different type of enhancement:

• Offensive Modules: Boost attack power, elemental damage, or specific weapon proficiencies.
• Defensive Modules: Increase armor, resistance to status effects, or provide health regeneration.
• Movement Modules: Enhance agility, stamina recovery, or special movement abilities.
• Utility Modules: Offer various benefits like increased loot drops, reduced alchemical costs, or extended item durations.

You can freely swap Modules in and out of these slots at any Vestal, allowing for flexible adaptation to different encounters.

The Module Upgrading Process

Upgrading Modules is a multi-step process that takes place at a Vestal. It involves two primary components: Module Keys and Module Components.

Step 1: Obtaining Module Keys

Module Keys are essential for unlocking higher upgrade tiers for your Modules. These rare items are typically found in specific locations or dropped by formidable foes:

• Exploration: Keep an eye out for hidden chests and secret passages. For instance, a Module Key (Tier 1) can be found early in the game within the Luxembourg Gardens, often guarded by a powerful Automaton.
• Boss Drops: Defeating certain main bosses and even some elite automatons will reward you with Module Keys. For example, the Unstable Lancer in the Tuileries might drop a Module Key (Tier 2) upon defeat.
• Merchant Purchases: Occasionally, the mysterious merchant found in various safe zones may offer Module Keys for a hefty sum of Anima Essence. Check their inventory regularly.

Step 2: Gathering Module Components

Module Components are the raw materials needed to craft and upgrade Modules. These are much more common than Keys and can be acquired through various means:

• Enemy Drops: Most automatons have a chance to drop various Module Components upon destruction. Stronger enemies tend to drop higher-tier components.
• Looting: Scour every corner of the environment. Crates, barrels, and fallen soldiers often contain valuable components.
• Alchemy: You can transmute lower-tier components into higher-tier ones at a Vestal, though this can be costly in Anima Essence.

Step 3: Crafting and Upgrading at a Vestal

Once you have the necessary Module Keys and Components, head to any Vestal to begin the upgrade process:

1. Interact with the Vestal: Select the "Upgrade Modules" option.
2. Select a Module: Choose the Module you wish to upgrade from your inventory.
3. Review Upgrade Requirements: The Vestal interface will display the required Module Key tier and the specific Module Components needed for the next upgrade level. For example, upgrading a basic "Endurance Module" to its first tier might require a Module Key (Tier 1) and several Common Mechanical Parts.
4. Confirm Upgrade: If you meet the requirements, confirm the upgrade. The Module's stats will improve, and it may even gain new passive effects at higher tiers.

• Prioritize Core Stats: Early in the game, focus on upgrading Modules that boost your primary damage stat (Power, Agility, Alchemy) and your survivability (Health, Armor).
• Adapt to Encounters: Don't be afraid to respec your Modules for specific boss fights. A Module that grants increased resistance to Frost damage will be invaluable against Frost-aligned automatons, for example.
• Explore Thoroughly: Module Keys are often hidden in out-of-the-way places. Fully explore each area to maximize your chances of finding them.
• Farm Components: If you're short on a particular Module Component, identify an area with enemies that frequently drop it and farm them. The Les Invalides area is a good spot for various mechanical components.
• Consider the "Module of the Master": This unique Module, often found late in the game or after completing a significant side quest, offers powerful, versatile bonuses. Save your highest-tier Module Keys for it.
