Part 1
Navigate the early career of Skate 2! This guide covers the first set of missions, from Braydon's Ball Blaster to The Bank Job, helping you progress through the game.
Alright, let's get you rolling with Part 1 of your Skate 2 journey! This section is all about kicking off your career and getting a feel for the game. Think of it as your official welcome to San Van Party. We'll be diving into the first set of missions that'll get your name out there.
This guide is broken down by events and sections, so you can jump right to what you need. Some parts of Skate 2 can be pretty tough and even a bit of a grind, but stick with it, and you'll get through it. I had some awesome help writing this up from my son Peter and some great friends online who really know their stuff!
We're going to cover the initial missions that kick off your career. These are your first steps towards becoming a skating legend, so pay attention to the details. Let's get this started!
Part 2
Complete Skate 2 Part 2 walkthrough covering character customization, basic training tutorials like Ollies and Grinds, and early career objectives.
- 1After the opening cinematic, customize your character. You can choose to modify your existing character or create a new one, and even change the gender for the 'Gender Bender' achievement (5GP).
- 2If you're new to Skate 2, complete the 'Basic Training' tutorial. This will teach you fundamental moves.
- 3Master grabbing your board and passing under a barrier to earn the 'Skater Evolved' achievement (5GP).
- 4Learn to Ollie by pulling back and flicking the right stick forward. Use three pushes to gain speed and jump the gap indicated by arrows.
- 5After jumping the gap, get off your board to move the dumpster blocking your path and earn the 'I Like to Move It' achievement (5GP).
- 6Place a session marker, then 3-push forward and Ollie the ramp. Lean right on landing to meet Slappy and earn the 'Meet Slappy' achievement (5GP).
- 7Return to your previous marker, then 3-push and perform an air-grab over the same ramp. Kick over to the orange lightbulb to start 'Flipping Wood 101'. Press X to repeat instructions if needed.
- 8After meeting notable skaters and completing a 'CS' (cutscene), you'll face a 'Grinding Photo Shoot' challenge. View the grinding tutorial if necessary and grind the rail (e.g., tail grind or center grind).
- 9Next, learn 'Manuals' with the 'Two on the Floor' tutorial. Hit X for instructions and practice.
- 10For the 'Just get it Up There' photo challenge, find the orange camera icon. Move the ramp next to the fun box, position it slightly angled in front of the fun box, and use its edge to Ollie onto the rail for a grind. You can choose the best photo from several options.
- 11After a CS with the Skateboard Mag crew, follow Slappy to the school to begin your 'Sponsor Me' tape. Your primary objective is to stay within 150 feet of Slappy.
- 12Upon arriving at the school, you'll encounter challenging surfaces and likely your first introduction to the 'Hall of Meat'.
- Pushing: There are regular and Mongo pushes. Regular pushes require holding the button to complete fully for maximum speed. Pushing with both feet on the board is crucial for full pushes, especially when setting up tricks.
- Mongo Pushes: While there's an achievement for 5000 Mongo pushes, they can be frustrating in career mode. Use them as a way to relieve frustration.
- Half Pushes: Avoid half pushes when you need to set up tricks in limited distances, as they are worse than no push at all.
- Tutorials: Pay close attention to the tutorials for basic moves, as they are essential for progressing and earning achievements.
- Achievements: Several achievements are tied to completing specific tutorial actions or finding hidden objectives (e.g., Gender Bender, Skater Evolved, I Like to Move It, Meet Slappy).
Part 3
Complete Skate 2 Skateboard Mag challenges like Braydon's Ball Blaster and Car Enthusiast. Learn tips for High and Dry, Ice Frosty, and more.
- 1Navigate the minimap (a small map displayed on your HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap), usually in a corner) to find the challenge icons.
- 2Select a challenge icon and proceed to the location.
- 3Refer to the Table of Contents (ToC) if you need help with a specific challenge.
- Hall of Meat challenges are designed as a payoff for bailing, derfing (falling off your board), and crashing. Look for bonus items like speed and different types of breakage.
- Use the radar (your minimap with nearby blips and threats marked) map to locate challenges.
- If security is after you, lose them before starting certain challenges like 'The Bank Job' and 'The Clampdown'.
(SKM01) Braydon's Ball Blaster
- 1When the challenge starts, get two or three pushes.
- 2Ollie (jump) the stairs.
- 3Get another push and fully crouch before hitting the statue.
- 4Time your jump correctly to clear the statue.
- 5Land and get another push.
- 6Ollie the next set of stairs and exit the building to win.
(SKM02) Car Enthusiast
- 1Grind all the way between the arrows.
- 2Slide over the car.
- 3Land gracefully beyond the car.
- You do not need to land on the ramp to complete this challenge.
(SKM03) High and Dry
- 1Take three good and fast pushes.
- 2Ollie or Nollie just before reaching the raised lip at the top of the waterfall.
- 3Grab your board as soon as you are in the air to sail over the gap.
- 4Release your grab before landing on the ledge or floor below.
- Be sure to clear the area quickly after resuming play, as security (rent-a-cops) will be actively pursuing you.
(SKM04) Ice Frosty
- 1Get a few good pushes in.
- 2Trick across the gap using your strongest tricks.
- 3Use simpler grinds (BS/FS) on the rail.
- 4Trick out at the dismount.
- Koston typically scores between 500 and 800.
- Landing on your trucks for a center grind over the gap can help boost your score.
- Play to your strengths with tricks.
(SKM05) Just Get Up There
- 1Grab the nearby ramp.
- 2Set it up in front of the funbox.
- 3Attempt the challenge again.
- Trying to complete this without the ramp can lead to frequent failures.
(SKM06) Lens Flare
- 1Get a few really strong pushes.
- 2Ensure you are fully crouched before you Nollie or Ollie onto the edge of the ledge.
- 3Grind and slide along the ledge.
- 4Rotate off your trucks onto the board to maintain balance.
- Landing on your trucks and then rotating onto the board is often more effective than hopping and turning in the air.
(SKM07) No Mugshots Please
- 1Get a few good pushes in.
- 2Time your Nollie or Ollie to land perfectly on the rail.
- 3Grind down the rail.
(SKM08) Shoot the View
- 1Nollie or Ollie onto the rail.
- 2Grind across the rail.
- 3At the gap, kickflip over it.
- 4Grind down the other side.
- 5Kickflip off the end and land properly without bailing.
- This challenge requires quick transitions. Do-overs are available.
(SKM09) The Bank Job
- 1Choose your approach angle to the bar based on your style.
- 2Nollie or Ollie onto the bar.
- 3Grind down the bar.
- You should have started and ended on the ramp to avoid failing.
(SKM10) The Bowels of MongoCorp
- 1Drag a nearby rail close to the edge, with the upturned part facing the statue.
- 2Start your run.
- 3Ollie or Nollie onto the rail and grind to the end.
- 4Ollie or Nollie up and through the wings of the statue just before the rail ends.
- 5If you used a grab for distance, release it before landing.
- 6Land properly.
- Guards may move the rail, and one might stand in the statue's opening. Keep trying.
(SKM11) The Clampdown
- 1Do a few pushes.
- 2Ollie or Nollie onto the rail.
- 3Grind down to the bottom.
- Avoid getting busted by security.
Part 4
Complete the Skate 2 We Roll Large challenge by following arrows and timing your jump off the statue. Big Black is unlocked here.
- 1When the challenge starts, place a marker (a marker on your minimap (a small map displayed on your HUD (Heads-Up Display)) so you can quickly restart.
- 2Follow the arrows, expecting to be blocked, sometimes even by Big Black. Go around obstructions or restart if necessary.
- 3As you approach the jump-point, which involves grinding up the side of a statue, focus on timing.
- 4Start your final three pushes just before hitting the ramp leading down to the statue. Do not make a fourth push.
- 5Use the extra distance from not pushing a fourth time to begin your Ollie/Nollie (an aerial trick where you pop the board off the ground) for more time to get the timing right.
- 6At the top of the grind, immediately perform a board-grab (holding the board while in the air).
- 7Use the board-grab to clear the fountain. With slight in-air maneuvering, angle to the left or right of the other side.
- 8Do NOT attempt to grind down the other side of the fountain, as this is likely to cause you to bail (fall off your board).
- 9Angle left or right and release your grab before landing on the other side of the fountain.
- 10Pick your photo and get your rewards.
- If you are struggling, take a break and come back later.
- It doesn't appear to matter whether you go left or right at the start; both directions have an equal chance of being blocked.
- Three good pushes are sufficient for maximum speed when approaching the statue.
- After unlocking Big Black, you can call him for interference in high-security zones for a price on future occasions. The first time he is called, it is free.
- 1The challenge is to gap from lot to lot.
- 2Look for a ramp on the other side of the gap.
- 3Position yourself so you can land on this ramp.
- Landing on the ramp on the other side prevents derfing (falling off your board).
- 1The object is to either lead or follow by doing the same trick.
- 2If you set the move and your competition matches it, you move on.
- 3If you set the move and they fail it, they get a letter.
- 4The first to spell SKATE loses.
- 5Use your cell/PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) with the left bumper to challenge additional opponents after beating Shingo.
- These opponents gamble, so you will need cash for the rest of the S.K.A.T.E. Challenges.
- 1With both feet on the board, perform a few strong pushes and then Ollie/Nollie (an aerial trick where you pop the board off the ground) the first set of stairs.
- 2As you approach the second set, angle slightly to the right.
- 3Ollie/Nollie so you land on the ledge, avoiding the bottom threshold of the stairs which causes you to bail (fall off your board).
- 4Come off the ledge and head for the last set of stairs, going as fast as you can to clear them.
- 5Achieve a 3x multiplier by performing board switches on the first two sets and a double-grab and 360 on the last set.
- It may take a few tries to complete this challenge.
- Board switches on the first two sets and a double-grab and 360 on the last set can help achieve the 3x multiplier.
- 1Go to the 'T' on the map to find the gate to a swimming pool. You are initially denied entry.
- 2The gatekeeper tells you that if you find him some more pools, you can come in.
- 3Three pool icons will appear on your radar; skate to each to 'discover' them.
- 4After discovering the third pool, warp back to the first pool.
- 5Upon entering the gate of the first pool, you discover it as the fourth of seven total pools.
- 6You can now accept the 'A Little Help Here' challenge.
- 7Burnett is shooting an article for Thrasher and needs a photo of a huge tweaked air (a trick performed in the air with specific adjustments using the right joystick).
- 8Get high enough air to go above the level of the deck above the pool.
- 9Perform a grab and tweak it with the right joystick.
- To get sufficient air momentum, build up speed before approaching the pool.
