African Elephants are a space and social 'boss'. They require one of the largest habitats in the game, with vast open spaces, plenty of Mud Baths, and appropriate terrain. They are highly social, needing a herd of several individuals, which further increases habitat size and food costs. Their intelligence means they need constant, varied Enrichment. Managing their waste production and ensuring adequate keeper access for cleaning is also a significant logistical challenge. They are a huge draw but a huge investment.
