They've got this thing called 'super armor,' which means they'll eventually just shrug off your attacks and hit back, even if you're wailing on them.

This guy's got some tricky kicks, especially that hook kick. He'll swing forward, then pull his leg back a bit – it's a pain to dodge perfectly. Your best bet, like with most bosses, is the quickstep. Just hold down R1/RB, then press X/A while holding a direction. If you don't hold a direction, Kiryu just hops back.
