This guide focuses on understanding and exploiting enemy patterns when playing as Judas in The Binding of Isaac. Judas is a character unlocked after defeating Satan for the first time. He starts with 1 Red Heart container, 3 coins, and The Book of Belial, possessing a 1.35x damage multiplier.

Black Judas:

When a character dies with Judas' Shadow, they respawn as Black Judas (Dark Judas). Black Judas starts with two Black Hearts, a 2x damage multiplier, and a base speed of 1.1. He has the highest damage multiplier of all playable characters. Black Judas can gain Red Heart containers in Rebirth but not in Repentance and Repentance+, where Red Heart containers are converted to Black Hearts. Black Judas counts as Judas for achievements and unlocks, and gains Tainted Judas' bonus effects when using Dark Arts in Repentance and Repentance+.

Notes:

• The Book of Belial is a powerful damage boost that should be kept. In Rebirth, it guarantees a Devil or Angel Room after a boss. In other versions, it increases the chance by 12.5%.
• Judas' low starting health makes health upgrades a priority. Devil Deals can be risky.
• Dead Cat has no downside early on for Judas and is a Guppy item.
• Items that activate on low health, like Scapular and Whore of Babylon, are easily triggered with Judas.

Item Interactions:

• Birthright (Repentance and Repentance+): The Book of Belial becomes a passive item. Its damage boost scales with the charges of the active item above it. This may not work with single-use items or items with non-standard recharge rules. It stacks with Book of Virtues.
