Learn the most efficient ways to level up in Final Fantasy XIV, from completing the main scenario to dungeons, FATEs, Levequests, and more, to reach the level 50 cap.
In RPGs, progression is either horizontal (leveling up, skilling up) or vertical (gearing up). While many Final Fantasy games blend both, Final Fantasy XIV heavily emphasizes horizontal progression until you reach the level cap of 50. At this point, vertical progression becomes key for end-game content and gear. Fortunately, reaching level 50 is not an overly grindy experience.
If you haven't completed the main scenario, here are the preferred methods to reach level 50:
- Complete the Main Scenario: Following the main story quests provides enough experience (XP) to reach level 50.
- Dungeons: Queue for the highest-level low-level dungeons you have unlocked.
- FATEs: Engage in these open-world events.
- Levequests: Complete these ad-hoc quests for XP, gil, and potentially Grand Company seals.
- Class & Job Quests: Start these at level 1. New quests unlock at levels divisible by 5. Class quests conclude at level 30, followed by job quests. Quests at levels 45 and 50 for jobs, and all class quests, also provide useful gear.
- Hunting Log: Acquire this by doing class quests if you haven't already.
- Daily Beast Tribe Quests: Participate in these daily quests (excluding the Ix'al tribe, which is for crafters).
- Challenge Log: Complete weekly objectives for rewards.
- Guildhests: Participate in these mini-raids that serve as practice for end-game raiding.
- Mapping Achievements: Earn these one-time achievements.
- Scripted Quests: Complete quests given by NPCs.
While defeating monsters in the field grants XP, its effectiveness diminishes significantly after level 10.
If you already have a class at level 50, the list remains largely the same. However, the Low Level Duty Roulette, when run once daily, offers a substantial XP boost upon dungeon completion. You can receive an additional bonus if you queue as a role in demand (often tanks or healers).
In earlier versions (2.0), FATEs were a primary leveling method outside the main quest. Experience gains have since been improved, with dungeons and levequests now offering considerably more XP.
