An arcade version, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Arcade, was released in Japan on December 24, 2013. It was succeeded by Dead or Alive 5 Last Round in February 2015.

A new Dead or Alive 5 project for PS3 and Xbox 360 was teased on April 28, 2013, revealing the addition of Momiji and the Sky City Tokyo stage. The game was officially named Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate on May 7, 2013, with a September release date. It was confirmed to include features from Dead or Alive 5+, such as tutorial mode, custom soundtracks, and new costumes. Subsequent trailers showcased battles between Kasumi and Momiji, the return of Leon, and the addition of Ein, Jacky Bryant, and the Lost World stage. It was clarified that Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate would not be compatible online with the original Dead or Alive 5 or Plus due to new moves like the Power Launcher and netcode changes. Further trailers revealed Leon, the Desert Wasteland stage, Rachel, and the Aircraft Carrier stage, completing the roster announcement.
