Alright, so you've taken a tumble or maybe had a rough encounter with a zombie (or another player, no judgment). If you're hearing that distinctive 'snap' sound and your character is moving like a broken puppet, you've likely got a broken bone. Don't panic! In DayZ, this isn't a death sentence, but it's definitely something you need to fix ASAP if you want to survive. This guide will walk you through how to splint those bones and get yourself mobile again.

What You'll Need:

  • Bandages: You'll need these to wrap the splint. Any kind will do, but clean ones are always better.
  • Splint Kit: This is the crucial item. You can craft one using Wood Sticks and Rags, or find pre-made Splint Kits in medical facilities, houses, or on fallen survivors.

How to Splint a Broken Bone:

  1. Check Your Status: First off, open your inventory (usually 'Tab'). Look at your character's status. If you have a broken leg or arm, it'll be clearly indicated, and your movement will be severely impaired (think hobbling or unable to aim properly).
  2. Equip Bandages: Take your bandages and put them in your hotbar for easy access.
  3. Use the Splint Kit: With the Splint Kit in your inventory, right-click on it and select 'Use'. Then, select 'Splint'.
  4. Apply to Limb: Your character will automatically try to apply the splint to the broken limb. You'll see an animation, and then the broken bone status should disappear from your inventory screen. You'll still be a bit sore, but you'll be able to move normally again!

Important Notes:

  • Crafting a Splint: If you can't find a Splint Kit, you can craft one. You'll need 4 Wood Sticks and 2 Rags. Combine the sticks to make a rudimentary splint, then combine that with the rags to create the full Splint Kit.
  • Pain and Recovery: Even after splinting, your character might still feel some pain, which can affect stamina. The splint is a temporary fix to restore mobility. For full recovery, you'll eventually need to find painkillers or wait it out.
  • Prevention is Key: Try to avoid unnecessary risks. Jumping from heights, especially while running, is a common way to break bones. Be mindful of your surroundings!
