Control is not a cover shooter, but that doesn't mean you can't take cover. Pillars and ledges block enemy attacks. However, mobility is crucial as enemies will flank you, and suicide bombers will detonate themselves near your hiding spots. The only way to heal damage is by collecting Health Elements dropped by defeated enemies.

When allocating Ability Points, prioritize increasing your health bar and the damage of your Launch ability. Side abilities from Launch can wait. Afterward, focus on improving your Shield ability and increasing your energy bar. Seize abilities are a lower priority, and improving your melee attack is the lowest priority, as enemies also have powerful melee attacks.

The Shield, Seize, and Evade abilities are unlocked through side missions and should not be considered optional. Shield is essential for defense, Seize helps balance difficult encounters, and Evade provides invulnerability frames to survive otherwise fatal attacks.

To drop an item picked up with Launch without actually launching it, press the interaction button (Square on PS4).

You will acquire many mods, but inventory space is limited. Regularly clear out your inventory by discarding old or redundant mods. Prioritize keeping better versions of mods and discarding useless ones immediately. It is generally more beneficial to spend resources on upgrading weapons rather than constructing new mods, though constructing Infinity level mods late in the game might be worthwhile despite the risk of wasting resources.

The crouch control (R3 on PS4) is also used for the Ground Slam ability. It is highly recommended to remap this button to avoid accidentally using Ground Slam when intending to rotate the camera, which can lead to fatal mistakes, especially during boss fights or while navigating challenging environments.

The AWE expansion added an Assist Mode to the pause menu, allowing toggles for Immortality and One-Hit Kills, which do not affect trophies.

The platinum trophy for Control is challenging due to the game's difficulty and the requirement to complete nearly everything: unlock the entire ability tree, finish all side missions, explore every area for Hidden Locations and Control Points, and defeat all five optional superbosses.

To acquire enough Ability Points to unlock all abilities, you can potentially skip the first Hidden Location in the Executive Sector, the first Hidden Location in the Research Sector, and the second part of the "Langston's Runaways" side mission (fighting a previously defeated boss). Even with these omissions, you may still have points left over, especially with the Ultimate Edition.

To aid in trophy acquisition, keep three Board Countermeasures active until you earn the trophy for completing 25 of them. Discard difficult or annoying countermeasures and select new ones, as they are procedurally generated.

Bureau Alerts should be prioritized as they may stop appearing later. Hiss Node destruction alerts are the easiest. Major Target alerts become manageable with Launch damage upgrades. Missions requiring FBC personnel survival are extremely difficult. Bureau Alerts are common in the middle of the game, appearing roughly every hour.
