Civilization Beyond Earth bonus resources explained: Bananas, Corn, Cotton, Crab, Deer, Fish, Fur, Iron, Silver, Sugar, Tobacco, Coast, Desert, Grassland.

Bananas

+2 Food

Bananas provide the least amount of food alone, similar to deer. They are found in warmer or more tropical parts of the map, such as the South America parts of the Western Hemisphere map, particularly Brazil.

Corn

+3 Food

Corn is a very useful food resource, providing three food per turn. It is commonly found on plains or grassland, and often near rivers, which further increases food yield. It is surpassed in usefulness by only one other food resource.

Cotton

+2 Cotton

Cotton is a desirable bonus resource. It can be used to produce cloth or exported to another colony for cloth production or back to Europe.

Crab

+3 Food

Crab is one of two sea bonuses, providing the same amount of food as corn. Port cities benefit greatly from this resource, as sea tiles generally provide more food than land tiles.

Deer

+2 Food

Deer provide two food. While they could theoretically have a fur bonus, only one resource can be harvested per tile at a time, which is a realistic but limiting feature.

Fish

+4 Food

Fish is the best food bonus in Civilization Beyond Earth, providing the highest yield. It is highly desirable for settling, provided docks can be built quickly to maximize the yield from these food tiles.

Fur

+2 Fur

Fur (technically beavers) is not evenly spread, often found near the North Pole (e.g., Canada on the Western Hemisphere map), commonly on Tundra tiles. Rare instances exist where it is found more widely.

Iron

+2 Ore

Iron is a key resource for revolution, used in producing tools and muskets. It is found in hilly tiles or in the desert, with hills being a more favorable location due to better support for life.

Silver

+2 Silver

Silver is only useful if found on a mountain tile, as it can only be mined there. On the Western Hemisphere map, the Rocky Mountains are a notable location for finding mountains.

Sugar

+2 Sugar

Sugar is primarily used for rum production and is more likely found in the Caribbean. Docks are often necessary to ensure survival on islands where sugar is found, as these islands may not offer substantial landmass for food gathering.

Tobacco

+2 Tobacco

Tobacco is profitable, used for cigars which are considered the best type of manufactured goods. It is normally found inland and requires transport to a port via wagon train.

Coast

+1 Food

Defending units get +10% Strength

Coast tiles provide one food and a +10% Strength bonus to defending units. Settlements cannot be built here, but they are useful if a settlement is located near these tiles, as they are widespread.

Desert

+2 Ore

Improvements take +25% time to build

Desert tiles yield two ore but increase improvement build time by 25%. Cities in desert tiles may struggle with food sources, often requiring ore to be exported for production of tools and muskets.

Grassland

+3 Food

+3 Tobacco

Grassland tiles offer a choice of production, providing either three food or three tobacco.
