After choosing your character, exit the bus. Claptrap will give you a HUD and head towards the New-U Station. Do not follow him immediately.

Explore the area around the bus stop, including dumpsters, lockers, safes, and toilets, for loot. Lootable objects glow green and turn red after use. Press X to open them; holding X automatically collects nearby loot.

Use the generator near the neon sign to reach the roof of the building. Loot the red chest there for new equipment.

Return to Claptrap. Visit the New-U Station to customize your name and color scheme. New-U Stations also serve as save points and respawn locations.

Bandits will attack as Claptrap tries to open the gate to Fyrestone. Sprint forward and take cover behind rubble. Use the Left Trigger to aim and shoot the Bandit Thugs and Bandit Raiders.

When fighting enemies, aim at them to see their name and level. Enemies significantly higher in level are very difficult. Enemy and boss levels are relative to your current level and may fluctuate slightly. Generally, avoid enemies four or more levels higher than you.

Loot the fallen bandits for cash and potential weapons. Continue down the road, taking down more bandits. Be aware of elemental barrels, like the Fire barrel near the house on the left, which can damage both enemies and yourself.

Claptrap will point out another red chest. Loot it. Access your Storage Deck (press Back) to equip and compare weapons. Press X to compare weapons and choose the best two for your current situation. You are not restricted to using weapons based on your character class specialty.

The main gate to Fyrestone is closed. Crouch (B) and take the alternate route. Crouch and jump over rubble until you encounter another group of bandits. Pay attention to their equipment, such as Shotguns, and adjust your combat distance accordingly.

By the time you reach Fyrestone, you should gain a level. Gaining a level restores your HP, increases your total HP, and boosts your damage output.

After clearing the bandits from Fyrestone, a mysterious girl will speak to you briefly before disappearing. Loot the town for more items. Talk to Claptrap when ready. Doctor Zed will then give you access to the next mission.
