Weapons
- Speed Star — Gives your Monkey a short speed boost.
- Banana Peel — Drops behind your Monkey Ball, causing any Monkey to skid.
- Bowling Bomber — Sends a bomb toward opponents, throwing them into the air and potentially hampering their speed and controls.
- Polygon Ball — Hits opponents, causing them to contend with a differently shaped ball that slows them down and lessens control.
- Ice Cube — Severely slows opponents' speed and transforms the ball into a frozen ice cube, making turns less responsive.
Play Modes
- One Course Race — 1-4 players. Choose Monkeys, a course, and settings (laps, computer participation, handicap, items).
- Grand Prix — Similar to One Course Race but spans all six courses. A winner is decided by a point system after six races: 1st = 10 points, 2nd = 7 points, 3rd = 3 points, 4th = 1 point.
- Time Attack — 1 player only. Race a chosen course against the clock. Each race provides three Speed Stars.

Strategies
- Always hit speed boosters on the track to maintain or gain position.
- In tight races, it can be advantageous to not be in the lead, as opponents behind you will collect items.
- Place Banana Peels in narrow parts of the course or around corners where opponents are likely to travel and not see them until it's too late.
- When entering the Pipe Warp Tunnel, slow down, aim for the speed booster, and go straight up the middle. If this fails, try going up one side from the bottom.
