- A strike is when all 10 pins are knocked down in one throw.
- A spare is when all 10 pins are knocked down in two throws.
- A strike earns 10 points plus points from your next two throws. For example, 10 points + 6 points + 3 points = 19 points for that frame.
- A spare earns 10 points plus points from your next throw.
- A perfect score of 300 requires 12 strikes.
Challenge Mode:
This mode is for one player only and presents 10 pre-arranged situations. You have only 11 total attempts, meaning you can fail only once to clear all challenges.
Challenge Patterns:
- Pattern One (Standard Formation): All 10 pins are standing. You need a strike to clear.
- Pattern Two (Bucket): Pins 3, 5, 6, and 9 are standing. Aim to hit the three pins directly to knock them all down.
- Pattern Three (Baby Split): Pins 2 and 7 are standing. Aim to hit the 2 pin so it flies back and hits the 7 pin. Alternatively, aim to hit both pins on the roll by throwing from the right side of the lane.
- Pattern Four (One In The Dark): Pins 2 and 8 are standing. Aim to hit the 2 pin directly so it goes back to hit the 8 pin.
- Pattern Five (Fit Split): Pins 9 and 10 are standing. Aim your shot exactly between the two pins to get them both. A harder method is to cut the 9 pin sharply to make it get the 10 pin.
- Pattern Six (Wash Out): Pins 1, 2, 4, and 10 are standing. Aim to the left of the head pin, causing it to hit the 10 pin in the corner. The ball will handle the other pins.
- Pattern Seven (Christmas Tree): Pins 3, 7, and 10 are standing. Move to the right side of the lane and aim straight down the lane to cut the 3 pin on its right side. This should cause the 3 pin to take out the 7 pin, and your ball will hit the 10 pin. This is a fairly hard shot.
- Pattern Eight (Dime Store): Pins 5 and 10 are standing. Aim to the left of the 5 pin and cut it so it flies and takes out the 10 pin.
- Pattern Nine (Little Three): Pins 4, 7, and 9 are standing. Move to the left side of the lane, aim to cut the 4 pin on its left side, sending it into the 9 pin while your ball hits the 7 pin.
- Pattern Ten (Big Three): Pins 4, 7, and 10 are standing. Move to the extreme far left of the lane and throw the ball straight down the edge, cutting the 4 pin slightly more thinly than in Pattern Nine to send it across the lane to get the 10 pin. The ball will get the 7 pin.
Strategies:
- Try to throw with full power for more impact on the pins, causing them to fly farther, faster, and with more spin, increasing the chance of a strike.
- Warning: Do not leave an open frame (pins left standing after two balls), as you will miss out on additional points and make catching up to opponents difficult.
- Work on your spin technique shots.
