[WLK:F2] Final Episode and Beyond: Vanitas's Lingering Spirit

Learn how to defeat Vanitas's Lingering Spirit, a secret boss in Among the Sleep, available after beating Master Xehanort. Get tips and strategies.

Preparation:

• Obtain the abilities Once More and Second Chance. Renewal Block and Renewal Barrier are also useful but harder to rely on.
• Max out your Slide/Dodge Roll/Cartwheel abilities. Avoid sacrificing defense for offensive abilities like Sonic Impact/Thunder Roll/Firewheel.
• Acquire your character's strongest finish command and consider getting Finish Boost, especially for Terra.
• Obtain the best Keyblade available: Ultima Keyblade for Ven/Aqua, and Chaos Ripper for Terra.
• Level up to 40-50 for a less challenging experience, though it can be beaten at any level.
• Buy and equip plenty of Potions, as casting Cure is detrimental. For Ven, Faith or Salvation can be used instead.
• Decide on an offensive strategy and fill the rest of your command deck with appropriate commands. Consider filling one slot with ice cream to safely recover if you switch into a bad command style.

Vanitas's Attacks:

• Attack 1: Vanitas hides in a black orb, sending out seven images that attack one at a time. If hit, you will be temporarily blinded. Vanitas then lunges for a melee attack. Dodge each image and then dodge again at the end. You can use a Shotlock for invincibility or spam the Square button. Vanitas is invincible within the orb, but a short window exists to hit him just before the attack begins, which will cancel it. This attack often starts the fight.
• Attack 2: Vanitas runs towards you, swings once, and shoots a sonic blast that can confuse you (reversing movement controls). The first swing can be blocked, but subsequent ones cannot. It is difficult to distinguish this from Attack #3, so dodging with Square when he gets close is recommended.
