Stuck on the Music Box puzzle in Vampire: The Masquerade — Swansong? Follow our step-by-step guide to decipher the clues and unlock the secret lab.

Alright, so you've made it to Leysha's part of the game and you're trying to get into the basement to find Richard Dunham. First things first, you'll need the Staff Keycard. It's chilling in the main bar, just sitting on a counter before you head out back. Grab that, then make your way to the back and look for the door marked "Staff Only." That's your ticket to the lift that'll take you down to the basement.

Once you're in the basement, you've got two paths. Don't bother with the left path leading to TrajaX storage – it's a dead end for our purposes. Instead, head down the white corridor to your right. You'll find two rooms along this path, and both are key to this whole music box situation. The first room holds a clue, and the one at the very end is where the music box puzzle itself is waiting.

Before you even get to the music box, you'll notice a bookshelf you can mess with. That's actually the Book puzzle you need to solve first. Get those books in the right order, and the bookshelf will slide open, revealing the Music Box – the final lock.

How to Solve the Music Box Puzzle

This music box puzzle is a bit trickier than the book one, but don't worry, the clue is still in that same file we looked at earlier. Head back to the office in that white corridor and check Richard's computer again. On the first page of the file, you'll find this little passage:

"Thus, the origin myth of Oedipus will show the way to a solution to the one who can interpret it… Always. It will reveal the tormented secrets of the Blood in all its darkness."

Now, think back. Where did you hear about Oedipus before? Yep, those paintings in the library! Go back there and take a good, hard look at the paintings. Each one has a title below it that's numbered. You'll use these numbers to get the swans in the correct order. From left to right, here's how you need to arrange them:

  1. Facing west
  2. Facing southwest
  3. Facing south
  4. Facing Southeast

Once you've got the swans lined up perfectly, hit that confirm button. The music box will start playing, and a secret lab will pop out from behind it. Just a heads-up, once you step into that lab, a scene will kick off that starts the ending sequence for this whole Scene. You won't be able to go back upstairs after that, so make sure you've wrapped up everything else you needed to do. Oh, and if you messed up the Berel Underwood objective earlier in this Scene, you'll snag the Lines that must not be crossed Trait for Leysha when you enter this room. It gives you a +15% success rate for Rhetoric but a -15% for Psychology.
