Alright, let's talk about The Citadel. Think of it as the main headquarters for the Brotherhood of Steel in the Capital Wasteland, and it's pretty much built right into the ruins of the old Pentagon. Pretty cool, huh?

Before the Great War, this place was the heart of the U.S. military's Department of Defense. It was packed with all sorts of secrets, like info on that crashed alien UFO, the Palandine, and even a project called Mission Cloacina that aimed to breed special rodents to mess with Chinese infrastructure. Wild stuff.

Later on, during the 2070s, the Pentagon became a hub for a massive project: creating Liberty Prime, the ultimate American war machine. This was a huge collaboration between the U.S. Army, General Atomics, RobCo, and Mass Fusion. They even hinted at it publicly back in 2072. Fun fact: some data from this project was secretly snagged by folks from Vault 63 engineering sector, thanks to Lt. Col. James Oberlin who didn't even know he was helping!

When the Great War hit, the Liberty Prime project, like everything else at the Pentagon, came to a halt. The building was left in ruins. But then, in 2255, a Brotherhood of Steel crew led by Star Paladin Owyn Lyons stumbled upon it. They found the sub-levels mostly intact, full of pre-War tech and weapons that were a huge boost for their dwindling forces. They also found Liberty Prime itself and realized finishing it could really help the Brotherhood regain its strength and reputation.

Because of this discovery, Owyn Lyons got promoted to Elder. His new mission was to set up a permanent Brotherhood base in the Capital Wasteland and keep hunting for advanced tech. The reconstruction of The Citadel was spearheaded by Scribe Bowditch, who designed the new gate leading into the Bailey, built right into a damaged corner of the building.
