Discover the fastest ways to earn Gold in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Learn efficient farming methods for Smash and Classic Mode to save up for Vault Shop purchases.

Gold (G) is one of the two currencies in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, primarily used for purchasing items from the Vault Shop and for continuing failed attempts in Classic Mode. While items in the shop may disappear, they typically return eventually.

The most efficient methods for earning gold involve playing Smash or completing Challenges. Other modes can also provide gold, but at a slower rate.

Smash

At the end of a match in various Smash modes (Smash, Squad Strike, Tourney, Special Smash), you receive gold based on the number of button inputs recorded during the round. To maximize this, you can repeatedly tap down on the Control Stick to make your fighter crouch and stand. The game interprets this as significant action and rewards you accordingly. The gold earned per down input varies based on the number of human players involved.

  • Against CPU: Approximately 1.21 gold per tap, averaging 300-500 gold per minute. The final amount is rounded down.
  • With Two Human Players: Approximately 0.905 gold per down input. While the rate per tap is lower, the increased number of inputs from multiple controllers results in higher overall gold earnings, around 400-600 gold per minute.

Sudden Death rounds do not award extra gold. To ensure a winner before the timer expires, have a player self-destruct (KO themselves) or do so during Sudden Death.

Two-Player Method Setup: If you wish to use the two-player method without a partner, you can utilize both Joy-Cons as separate controllers. Detach them from the system, ensure they are not connected as a single Dual Joy-Con controller, and then disconnect the Dual Joy-Con. By pressing SL + SR on each individual Joy-Con, you can connect them as separate controllers. Assign one to your fighter and the other to a CPU slot, then disconnect the CPU. This allows you to control two fighters simultaneously and double your crouch inputs for more gold. You can hold the Joy-Cons vertically or horizontally for comfort, just be mindful of the Control Stick's orientation.
