Navigate World 2 of Super Mario Bros. with our detailed walkthrough, covering levels 2-1 through Roy's Fortress, including Star Coin locations and boss strategies.
Walkthrough
- 1World 2-2: Start by taking a Fire Flower. Slide down the hill, smash barrels, and use the third barrel to defeat a spike. Collect coins from item boxes, hit a P Switch, grab blue coins, and take out another spike. Grab more coins and an Ice Flower. Freeze a spike for a hidden 1up Mushroom. Freeze a spiny, slide down the next hill, and ride a platform up while kicking a shell at koopas. Take the Ice Flower and use the midway flag. Go left to sink in quicksand, hit the P Switch, fall through coins, and enter the pipe. Go right, hit the question mark switch to reveal platforms, and jump to the first Star Coin. Return left, enter the pipe by the wooden sign. Hug the right wall, use a barrel on a spike. Ride a platform down for another barrel, then use a running jump to hit the left brick of a group, revealing a beanstalk. Climb it and ride the platform for coins. Pick up a POW block and wait under the second Star Coin. Use the POW block to get coins, then drop down. Go left past a spike to a green pipe for a Mini Mushroom. Run across water as Mini Mario, wall-jump for coins, and return through the pipe. Continue right across platforms to find barrels. Stomp them and enter the pipe. Take another Mini Mushroom, hit the P Switch, run across water, and wall-jump left for the third Star Coin before entering the next pipe. Go right, defeat a spike on a moving platform, and take a running jump to the goal.
- 2World 2-3: Watch for a spiny and take a Fire Flower. Jump on item boxes, then do a running jump left onto the trees. Jump from the left tree for a 1up Mushroom before entering the pipe. In the dark area, use fireballs to see. Shoot piranhas, grab a Fire Flower, and slide down a hill. Continue right, avoiding firesnakes and a moving platform. Jump up yellow blocks, take a running jump left, run over gaps, and enter a pipe. Hit bricks from below to defeat spike tops, then hit the P Switch to clear the rest. Collect coins and return through the pipe. Head right, keep low for a Power Star, then jump over big blocks. Drop down for the first Star Coin while taking out firesnakes. Continue right, jump up big blocks to coins and the midway flag. Carefully jump past fire piranhas and moving platforms to a fire brother. Drop between his fireballs, run left for the second Star Coin. Return right for a Fire Flower. Defeat the fire brother and jump past big fire piranhas. Use a wall-jump from the top of the next hill instead of sliding to reach a ledge. Jump right for the third Star Coin and a pipe. Watch for a koopa as you jump up steps, then leap to the goal on your right.
- 3World 2 - Roy's Fortress: Play as Propeller Mario for an easier time. Climb the fence, jump up, and enter a door. Climb the tilt fence, tilting the remote so the fence swings towards the P Switch. Collect coins and return through the door. Jump up the next fence, watch for dry bones, and take an Ice Flower. Walk through the right wall for coins, then enter the door in the left wall for an item choice box. Return to the main room and jump up the fences. Watch for purple magic shots and climb. Find the first Star Coin on your left and jump to it. Go up past more fences and dry bones, then enter the door at the top for the midway flag. Run right past dry bones for the second Star Coin inside the wall. Climb right and up over spikes, then climb more. Jump into the POW block to shake loose coins. Hug the right wall and jump for a hidden 1up Mushroom. Go up for an Ice Flower to use on dry bones. Walk through the right wall between dry bones to reach a door with a tilt fence and red coins. Go back through the door and continue climbing. Jump carefully left for the third Star Coin under spikes. Climb right and over spikes to your left, then jump up to the doors and use them.
- 4World 2 Boss - Roy Koopa: Roy jumps once or twice, then performs a big jump and stomp. Avoid being on the ground when he lands to prevent stunning. He fires a magic shot after the stomp, which is easily jumped over. Jump on Roy three times (dodging his shell) to defeat him, or hit him with about 18 fireballs. After two hits, he uses two magic shots instead of one.
Tips
- Playing as Propeller Mario can make Roy's Fortress significantly easier.
- Use the Ice Flower to freeze enemies like Spiny and Spike, allowing for easier traversal or access to hidden items.
- Mini Mario can access certain areas and collect items that other forms cannot, particularly by running across water and wall-jumping.
- POW blocks can be strategically used to collect multiple coins at once, especially when positioned under them.
- Pay attention to item boxes for Fire Flowers and Ice Flowers, as they are crucial for dealing with specific enemies and environmental hazards.
