Master the treacherous Entrance Hall in Super Castlevania IV! Learn to defeat Hellhounds and Zombies, navigate tricky chandeliers, and grab essential power-ups like Holy Water.
Alright, we're finally inside the castle, and this feels like the real start of things! Don't get too comfortable though, because a Hellhound is coming right at you. Whip it quick! See how it lays down instead of vanishing? If you wait around, it'll get back up, so keep moving. Zombies are also going to be a constant nuisance in these halls, just like in the first game, so always be aware of your surroundings. Keep heading forward, taking out any Zombies you see, and watch out for those Bats dropping in diagonally from above – they're a bit trickier than the usual ones. Before you hit some stairs, be on the lookout for another Hellhound.
Once you're up the stairs, you'll see some platforms. The second one has a HOLY WATER power-up. Grab it! This stuff is fantastic for raining down on the Axe Armor enemies below you, especially if you still have the cross. These Axe Armors will hurl axes at you, either low or at a normal height, so keep your eyes peeled. Remember, you can whip their axes out of the air to destroy them! Each Axe Armor takes about four hits to defeat, so your main priority is staying safe. After you've dealt with three Axe Armors, keep pushing right towards the next set of stairs. There's another Axe Armor to take care of from below before you climb up into the next room.
Now, things get a little more interesting as we have to cross using chandeliers. Each chandelier has four platforms. They're easiest to jump onto when they lean to the right. If you're fast, you can usually make it all the way to the far left platform. The key here is to be super careful. Don't try to jump left onto a platform that's already moving left – that's a recipe for disaster. The first three chandeliers are pretty straightforward, with platforms that are easy to reach. However, that fourth chandelier requires extra caution because the far platform is a bit more of a stretch. Take your time, and don't be afraid to use an extra whip swing if you need it to safely make it to the next screen. Just be careful not to fall!
