Learn how to master web-swinging, wall-crawling, and combat in Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. Discover suit abilities, web strikes, and map navigation tips.
This section serves as a tutorial for Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, covering combat strategies, general movement tips, and game mechanics.
A. Getting Around
Explore Manhattan using Spiderman's diverse movement abilities. The primary method is web swinging using the right trigger, which latches onto buildings to create an arc. You can jump out of a swing or press the trigger again to continue. Combining the trigger with your height allows for quick, low swings or high aerial momentum. Tapping the trigger performs a web zip, a faster, straighter movement. Combining both methods allows for rapid city traversal.
Spiderman can also crawl on walls. Moving the left stick allows for basic movement on walls. Pressing the L bumper initiates a faster wall run. The Right trigger can be used to jet up a building with a web zip.
B. Map
Your map is located in the lower right corner of the screen and provides crucial information:
- Blue Dots: Initially quest givers, they become SHIELD agents and quest givers later in the game.
- Red Dots: Represent enemies, often appearing during missions or encounters. Later, they can include less threatening zombie-like creatures. Prioritize more mobile red dots as actual threats.
- Symbols: Indicate ongoing crimes in the city, colored by the involved factions. Stopping crimes provides experience.
- Green Dots: Represent other heroes fighting alongside you, appearing in certain missions or when a hero is summoned.
- Flashing Symbols: Mission-critical objectives, larger and more noticeable than other emblems.
C. Combat
Spiderman has a multitude of combat abilities, most notably the ability to switch between the Red suit and the Black symbiote suit. The Red suit is fast and acrobatic, focusing on quick hits and long combos. The Black suit deals high damage with brutal attacks at the cost of speed. Both suits share core abilities but differ in execution.
- Light Attacks: Fast and relatively weak, they are excellent for initiating combos. Upgrades can add multi-punch attacks for the Red Suit or damage to downed opponents for the Black Suit. Basic attacks function in the air and on walls, with different combos available for each situation and suit.
- Web Strikes: A primary combat move that sends a web to the nearest/targeted enemy, pulling Spiderman close. At close range, various buttons can be pressed to deal damage or throw the enemy. Rebounding off one enemy allows for sequential strikes on others, with increasing damage. Red Suit web strikes allow for combo extensions, while the Black Suit enables slamming enemies and grinding them into others. Be aware of enemy web breaks, which can counter your attacks.
- Projectiles: The Red Suit can launch Web bundles to immobilize and damage enemies, useful for crowd control. The Black Suit can shoot a tendril to grab enemies and pull them closer for combos. Tendril attacks are effective for closing distance and can quickly defeat weaker foes with upgrades.
- Health: The green bar in the lower right corner represents Spiderman's health. Health regenerates slowly by retreating from combat. The Black Suit recovers health slower but can also regain health by dealing damage. There are no health pickups; maintaining combos is key to survival.
