Luke Triton has relocated to Steam Bison, a city in the United States renowned for its advanced steam engine technology. A year after the events of _Professor Layton and the Unwound Future_, Luke finds himself embroiled in a new mystery. He sends a letter to Professor Layton, requesting his assistance. Upon Layton's arrival, Luke swiftly approaches him, driving a unique two-legged steam-powered vehicle, and urges the Professor to join him, emphasizing the need to leave their current location immediately.

Later in the game, Luke and Professor Layton embark on a search for the city's inventor, Mr. Eggmuffin, at his workshop. Luke is also accompanied by a small robot named Coindar.
