Learn how camouflage and the Camo Index work in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Discover how to stay undetected by maximizing your Camo Index with uniforms and face paint.
Camouflage and the Camo Index are crucial for remaining undetected in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The Camo Index, displayed at the bottom of the screen next to your health and stamina, indicates how visible you are to enemies. A lower number means you're more likely to be seen, so the goal is to keep it as high as possible. Moving decreases your Camo Index, while standing still increases it. The most effective way to boost your Camo Index is to go prone in grass and remain motionless.
Camouflage is comprised of two elements: Uniforms and Face Paint. Each has a number indicating its effectiveness in your current environment; higher numbers are better. Always monitor your Camo Index, especially when trying to avoid alerting enemies. Most Uniforms and Face Paints can be found scattered throughout the game world.
A special caveat exists for certain Uniforms: they can only be acquired by defeating bosses non-lethally. This requires using weapons that damage stamina rather than health, which can be challenging but is the only method to obtain these specific items.
